Not with the players you've got this season but the general impression of yorkshire fans I have encountered is that 'because of our history we should be winning the county championship'. There seems to be a general feeling of entitlement because of their history- Much akin to liverpool football supporters.
Possibly but it was a very young team with little experience. Grave's response to the situation was a typical yorkshire response - full blown, over the top and public. Not exactly the ideal way to get performances out of a young inexperienced team. It would be considerably better imo for the coach to say something behind closed doors and regroup rather than the chairman lay a full blown assault on everyone.
Having listened to some of the radio commentaries early this season, already people have been e-mailing in complaining about performances expecting to run through the second division easily.
You have given a lot to English cricket and I'm sure you will continue giving more than other counties and you do have a great history.... buut too often the current players imo are left to deal with the expectations and hangups from past generations. If the club wants to move forward with the rest of the cricket world they need to get past this to be successful once again.
It really is no surprise something like this has happened under his tenancy even if his presidency is no more than a honorary role.
He's from a bygone era and with him at a position of authority at the club i doubt whether the club will ever move forward in a way that will be succesful in the modern era. There's a reason why the current England players humour him to his face when he talks to them but behind his back think of him as a fool.
Don't get me wrong. I actually like a load of the Yorkshire players and respect the clubs history and the strength and importance of cricket in the county but it's hard to like the club as a whole sometimes.
Obviously this is your opinion but I feel it's got not basis in reality, what your saying may have been correct about entitlement in the 60's, 70's & 80's but imo you're well wide of the mark now and tbh if you don't go to matches and are around the club you wouldn't have a clue.
If you had sat and paid to watch some of the performances that the team produced last year you would understand the comments of the chairman, they were for the most part woeful all season long and more than that it was the manner in which they performed, they didn't look interested, no fight, guts or pride. Like I said before if you went and watched you would know what got the back up of a lot of the fans.
How exactly was it a very young inexperienced team last year, there were a coupe of young lads in like Root, Bairstow & Ballance and occasionally Rafiq & Ashraf but on the whole it was a experienced bunch who had competed for the Championship the year before and most have had plenty of seasons behind them. Guys like Gale, Siddy, McGrath, Shahzad, Bresnan, Rashid, Pyrah, Brophy, Lyth and Sayers, sorry but your comment is straight up wrong.
To be honest mate, it appears to me that you have more than a problem with Boycott, for whatever reason that is and it's wrongly having a effect of your opinion of Yorkshire.
Going back to the Shahzad thing, I know things have been coming to head a bit with him in recent times with that pitch damaging incident and a club trip to Netherlands which he got into a fair bit of trouble over. Apparently from all accounts, he's never really got over being discarded by England, which doesn't really make much sense because he got injured and completely lost form and never bowled himself back into contention. Also seems to have a bit of a problem when Bresnan comes back into the side because he loses the new ball to him, which he hates. So who knows what the true reason is, it could be they are getting rid of a bit of a bad egg in the team.
