Promotion back to the top flight is an unreasonable aspiration?

Hardly hyper-critical, they really were piss poor last season.

Strongly connected to our history and with a sense of pride in it isn't such a bad thing, as a county we've done more than as a club though given the cricketer's who've come out of it.

Really still trying to find out what Boycs has done wrong in this case

Also I reckon the reason for him leaving is probably financial rather than cricketing given the rather polite statements by the parties involved in the media thus far.

Not with the players you've got this season but the general impression of yorkshire fans I have encountered is that 'because of our history we should be winning the county championship'. There seems to be a general feeling of entitlement because of their history- Much akin to liverpool football supporters.

Possibly but it was a very young team with little experience. Grave's response to the situation was a typical yorkshire response - full blown, over the top and public. Not exactly the ideal way to get performances out of a young inexperienced team. It would be considerably better imo for the coach to say something behind closed doors and regroup rather than the chairman lay a full blown assault on everyone.

Having listened to some of the radio commentaries early this season, already people have been e-mailing in complaining about performances expecting to run through the second division easily.

You have given a lot to English cricket and I'm sure you will continue giving more than other counties and you do have a great history.... buut too often the current players imo are left to deal with the expectations and hangups from past generations. If the club wants to move forward with the rest of the cricket world they need to get past this to be successful once again.

It really is no surprise something like this has happened under his tenancy even if his presidency is no more than a honorary role.

He's from a bygone era and with him at a position of authority at the club i doubt whether the club will ever move forward in a way that will be succesful in the modern era. There's a reason why the current England players humour him to his face when he talks to them but behind his back think of him as a fool.

Don't get me wrong. I actually like a load of the Yorkshire players and respect the clubs history and the strength and importance of cricket in the county but it's hard to like the club as a whole sometimes.

Anyway pray for good weather tomorrow/today and we might actually have some cricket action to discuss.

It does seems that Shahzad was always rated higher and got on better with england than Yorkshire so a career change will probably do both sides good. Yorkshire are going to be light on the bowling even with Starc coming in especially if bresnan plays a lot for england this summer.
Remember, there's an Australia A-England Lions series happening around August, so Starc might miss some games around then.

Obviously this is your opinion but I feel it's got not basis in reality, what your saying may have been correct about entitlement in the 60's, 70's & 80's but imo you're well wide of the mark now and tbh if you don't go to matches and are around the club you wouldn't have a clue.

If you had sat and paid to watch some of the performances that the team produced last year you would understand the comments of the chairman, they were for the most part woeful all season long and more than that it was the manner in which they performed, they didn't look interested, no fight, guts or pride. Like I said before if you went and watched you would know what got the back up of a lot of the fans.

How exactly was it a very young inexperienced team last year, there were a coupe of young lads in like Root, Bairstow & Ballance and occasionally Rafiq & Ashraf but on the whole it was a experienced bunch who had competed for the Championship the year before and most have had plenty of seasons behind them. Guys like Gale, Siddy, McGrath, Shahzad, Bresnan, Rashid, Pyrah, Brophy, Lyth and Sayers, sorry but your comment is straight up wrong.

To be honest mate, it appears to me that you have more than a problem with Boycott, for whatever reason that is and it's wrongly having a effect of your opinion of Yorkshire.

Going back to the Shahzad thing, I know things have been coming to head a bit with him in recent times with that pitch damaging incident and a club trip to Netherlands which he got into a fair bit of trouble over. Apparently from all accounts, he's never really got over being discarded by England, which doesn't really make much sense because he got injured and completely lost form and never bowled himself back into contention. Also seems to have a bit of a problem when Bresnan comes back into the side because he loses the new ball to him, which he hates. So who knows what the true reason is, it could be they are getting rid of a bit of a bad egg in the team.

On the face of it a big blow for Yorkshire to lose a player that you expect would be a stand-out bowler in Division Two this year. Has had a steady start to the year with several people claiming he looks to be heading back to somewhere near his best, maybe putting himself in the shop window for an attractive move elsewhere.

While the announcement appears to have come out of the blue, it seems his attitude and general demeanour around Headingley has not been of a first-class standard for a while, and in the media statement it does suggest that talks about Shahzad's development and future have been ongoing for some time. I'm sure there's much more to come out of this as to why it has now reached a head. Were Yorkshire waiting to confirm re-inforcements in the form of Mitchell Starc before allowing Shahzad to move on or was the idea of someone else using the new ball ahead of him simply too much ? Surely his place in the side was assured on ability alone.

I cannot imagine there'll be a shortage of takers willing to take a punt on him if they can agree the best way forward for his development and role in the side.
Pretty much.

England news 2012: England professionals demand IPL-style T20 | Cricket News | Global | ESPN Cricinfo

England's professional cricketers have overwhelmingly rejected the findings of the Morgan Report into the future of the first-class game and have called for the introduction of a high-profile T20 tournament that can bear comparison with IPL.

The survey, conducted by the Professional Cricketers' Association, reveals in detail for the first time the strength of opposition to the proposed shake-up.

The players show almost universal support for the retention of the 16-match championship and calls for Twenty20 to become a highly-promoted tournament in the middle of the season - in the manner of the IPL - to maximise the chances of attracting some of the world's best players.

The PCA report concludes that the English game must: "Establish a high quality T20 competition which draws on experience from other T20 events worldwide, and balances the requirement for short-term financial return for the counties with the need to establish a sustainable T20 income stream.

"For that, we need a competition which has the potential to attract the best overseas players and maximises overseas broadcast interest. A significant increase in the prize money at stake is a critical element of that."

The players' views, which preliminary soundings conducted by ESPNcricinfo also suggest are shared by the bulk of spectators, place further pressure on the ECB to accept that the Morgan Review's solutions to address the game's ills are not shared either by those who play or watch.

The exhaustive review, conducted by David Morgan, a former ECB chairman, was shelved by the ECB in March as the Board decided instead to conduct further research throughout the 2012 season into the future of professional cricket in England.

Growing opposition to Morgan's recommendations, which included a reduction in championship matches from 16 to 14, a return to 50-over cricket and 14 Twenty20 matches, left the ECB Board unable immediately to adopt a report which many senior officials still want to see become reality.

Top knock from Sayers. Will Smith pushing him for the most underwhelming opener in county cricket.

Listening to the Essex game, where there is a huge LBW appeal against Virus an over. He really will be in trouble in the summer unless England decide not to bowl straight to him.

Moises Henriques a medium pacer now? Haven't seen him since the U19 WC but the commentators are describing him as some sort of trundler.

nah he still bowls a decent enough pace, but he might be dropping a bit and focusing on getting the right length and stuff.

Jimmys gone for an xray apparently having dropped one in the slips (and Smith has some kind of leg injury so Lancs might be struggling).

Richardson rubbing his hands together anticipating his impending callup.

But 15 minutes before the toss he goes down with injury......AND THEN SHAHZAD APPEARS
