Hmm yea must be something big behind this. Given his history I would guess he's had a run-in with someone high-up.

Nonsense ruling designed to appeal to the Daily Mail flappers. No other country in the world sees it necessary to ignore as many of their potential cricketers as possible.

18 year olds do not make the colossal decision to emigrate based on a calculated guess at a possible contract.

But in the case of Kes he was in the UK going to school while still representing RSA U19. He started playing for Somerset second XI in 2006 at the age 17/18.

Likes of Kes, Trott and KP up until their late teens and beyond were either still apart of RSA representative sides or still harboured international ambitions with the Republic. Being disillusioned with the system and getting rejected won't happen to most sixteen year old kids, particularly when they are still in school and cricket still isn't serious.
Didn't realise he was that young when he played in the U/19 WC in 2006.
Indeed, which is why it's always struck me as a nonsense that he tends to get presented as some mercenary. When I was watching the World T20 final at a university bar, one of the girls I was with, who had never seen a game of cricket, was stunned to discover this lad she used to go to school with on the telly.

Furthermore it adds fuel to the myth that Johnny Foreigner is the problem, when really it's the lack of cricket in state schools.

Meh, the Daily Mail doesn't like that, as it means we'd need to spend some money which should be going on cuts in Taxes for the poor benighted middle-class.

Anyway, talk of Ajmal coming to Somerset, wouldn't be displeased myself.

holy crap.

Was looking at going to watch Glos playing against Yorkshire at Scarborough in August. But looking at hotel prices I don't think so - guess it's holiday season

someone had said on twitter that Boycott had said Shahzad and Rashid had until June to improve performances or leave. Obviously all hearsay but does sound like Boycott.

Joke of a club imo. deluded supporters and ex-players. hate to be a player there. doubt Gillespie lasts more than a couple of years.

Funny that this should happen because I remember last season there had been quite a few rumors from people round the club, that Shahzad had had numerous arguments with Moxon and from all account he's got a bit of a bad attitude.

Don't know what to personally make of it, on the surface it's all bad, he's a talented bowler who this year has looked back to something like he was a couple of years ago and the last thing we need is to lose a decent player. I reckon there's more to this than what we know atm and wouldn't be surprised if there's more to follow. After Chairman Graves' comments at the end of last year, you would have thought if it was just a case of not wanting a player they would have shipped him out then.

How's that then?

Who would this someone be?

Dizzy will probably get a good run, he's popular with us and the fellas above, more to the point as an Aussie were hoping he'll improve the standard of fielding at the club which more than anything is our problem.

Also if this person on twitter is speaking something other than bollocks how come Rashid hasn't kicked off and had a whine about it?

On the face of it a big blow for Yorkshire to lose a player that you expect would be a stand-out bowler in Division Two this year. Has had a steady start to the year with several people claiming he looks to be heading back to somewhere near his best, maybe putting himself in the shop window for an attractive move elsewhere.

While the announcement appears to have come out of the blue, it seems his attitude and general demeanour around Headingley has not been of a first-class standard for a while, and in the media statement it does suggest that talks about Shahzad's development and future have been ongoing for some time. I'm sure there's much more to come out of this as to why it has now reached a head. Were Yorkshire waiting to confirm re-inforcements in the form of Mitchell Starc before allowing Shahzad to move on or was the idea of someone else using the new ball ahead of him simply too much ? Surely his place in the side was assured on ability alone.

I cannot imagine there'll be a shortage of takers willing to take a punt on him if they can agree the best way forward for his development and role in the side.

I haven't seen much of Shahzad but he bowled superbly with the old ball on debut against Bangladesh. If he can hit that level on a regular basis I'd have few problems with him being around the England set up again. Doubt he'd struggle to find a club soon.

Having been at the ground that day I certainly don't remember his bowling as being superb at all. If I remember correctly the majority of his bowling was what can only be described as tripe.

Fair enough, I only remember the jaffa's.

How's that then?
unreasonable/unrealistic expectations
hyper critical of own players performances
inflated opinion of self importance as a county.

Obviously a generalisation that is not applicable to all supporters (many of this forum seem perfectly sane and reasonable, you included. :).)

It does seems that Shahzad was always rated higher and got on better with england than Yorkshire so a career change will probably do both sides good. Yorkshire are going to be light on the bowling even with Starc coming in especially if bresnan plays a lot for england this summer.

It's no real surprise that this has happened with Boycott as Chairman. He really is a **** who belongs in a bygone era. Sometimes you forget when listening to commentary where he can be very good and perceptive and then he'll lose it and start a rant and you remember what a **** he is.
