Not really comparable, Roy has one of the greatest records as an International 50 overs record, and a part of the greatest partnership so he deserves leeway.

I'd pick him for the next World Cup. Yet hey if Salt goes big I may change my view.
But he's barely been able to buy a run for over a year. He was even desperate in The Hundred too.

So this match will almost certainly be decided by how long Buttler bats for. Watching England play spin without Root is fairly horrific stuff.

He shouldn't ever play t20 for England again. Yet you can't dismiss his ability for taking on the power-play and scoring big runs in 50 overs, the two most key thing for scoring big runs in ODI's.

Bangladesh right on top here, everything rests on Malan but its a big ask.

Jacks isn't going to last 5 minutes playing like this - where's the game management from him.

Probably going to jinx him, but this is why Malan always plays for me, when plan a fails he can easily switch to more sensible game. and yes we'll have Root to do that as well, but not bad having 2 in case the other one gets out early.

I'd love to see Malan & Bairstow opening for England. You feel you can trust them, unlike Roy, Salt or Jacks.

In my opinion, and according to statistics, Woakes is better than Sam Curran. Even though, that's not gonna be very popular, as there is a lot of hype around Curran (i agree he is a very talented player and tends to make things happen).
- Woakes has 159 wickets from 111 matchs, averaging 30. He averages 25 with the bat
- Curran averages 43 with the ball and 21 with the bat...
Funnily, they both have the same high score of 95* !

About Root & Malan, they average 50 & 56,5 with the bat. England need both of them ! They can also both spin the bowl if needed.

I'd go for : 1. Malan, 2. Bairstow, 3. Root, 4. Brook, 5. Buttler, 6. Livingstone, 7. Ali, 8. Woakes, 9. Rashid, 10. Archer, 11. Wood

I like Woakes more than most and he was absolutely crucial to our world cup win, but in Curran's favour:
- Faster scorer with the bat
- Left arm option
- Woakes traditionally struggles outside England
- Curran was player of the tournament in the world T20

One day averages are pretty janky tbh, especially for bowlers

If you are playing Archer and Wood then you need a new ball bowler more than someone who can bowl at the death. Woakes would get the nod ahead of Curran on that basis.

Hmm, I dunno, I just feel Curran's bowling is only really good when people play a shot a ball, it's a skill, but longer forms just works less.

Left-armer point is decent though, not sure Topley, Willey, L. Wood will make it.

Yet Archer, Wood, Woakes, Mahmood, Stone, there's variety there, even if they're all righties.

Oddly, Mark Wood hadn't played a 50 over since July 2021.

Meanwhile, in terms of trying to win this game, an awful lot has been invested in this Malan innings.

One ball away from seeing off Mehedy Hasan. Bit grim from Moeen, he was miles away from it.

It's a Malan hundred or bust seemingly.

Don't really like Malan taking a single off the first ball of the over twice in a row. Rashid is a decent 9 but it's hard to bat out there and he's the guy on 80.

Don't forget Rashid has a bunch of FC hundreds! (Scored back in the mid 1980s, but still needs mentioning each time he bats.)

Wow, I knew Rashid could bat, but I never realized he has 37 fifties & 10 hundreds in first class cricket !

There was definitely a time in County cricket Adil was probably almost a batting all-rounder, it's a pretty lomg time ago now though, so I'm not sure how relevant it is, other than he's a decent number 9, but Woakes was a decent number 8, and Moeen a decent number 7 and Jacks exists.

This is a good scenario for Rashid, you don't need to be smashing it, wristy flicks will get the job done.
