I think it's quite important for england to try to work out our World Cup squaud. The likes of Vince, Jacks, Salt and vince need to go big, and there's some exciting bowling out there in Ahmed, Mahmood, Archer and Wood.

Doesn't look like we'll get to see Archer doing much death bowling, which is a shame.
I expect Vince is keeping a seat warm for Root regardless. But there's no garantee Bairstow and Livingstone slot straiht back in from injury so yeah, something to play for if you're Phil Salt and especially Will Jacks.

Speaking of, Jacks gets the trust of the captain to bowl when there's still plenty of the seamers available to bowl the last 10, and gets the last specialist bat out. Strong outing for him with a bit of assistance from the surface.

The amount of times I have slightly mournfully thought this is definitely Vince's last game for England just to see him pop up again.

Taskin Ahmed batting at 9 has an ODI batting average of 6.

I'm fairly condifent that this is as good an attack as England can field. You can maybe have Curran and Livingstone for Woakes and one of Jacks/Moeen, which might improve the batting while keeping the bowling about the same.

You forgot Brook. Top 5 come World Cup is surely Bairstow, Roy/Salt/Jacks, Root, Brook. Buttler

Harsh on Malan. I'd be happy to be proven wrong but would like Brook to make a really strong case in white ball cricket specifically before he displaces someone who's averaging well over 50. Brook was pretty bad in the world t20

This World Cup in India though (he was certainly good in Pakistan on somewhat similar surfaces). He'll get plenty of IPL experience. I just don't see how you leave out a guy as talented as he is.

Anyway, despite a bit of rustiness, a decent bowling effort in the end. Great comeback from Archer after his first 2 went for 18. 8 overs 2-19 from the remainder.

Yeah Malan would have to be ahead of Salt right now.

You always hear about his captaincy but England really miss Morgan with the bat in the middle order.

I agree with Howe, I'd like Brook to make a 50 over case, but in the end we know it isn't going to happen and Brook will be in the Squad.

Archer and Wood being fit would be so big for the rest of the year, total fantasy, but we can dream.

The only way he makes a 50 over case is by playing ODIs so kind of hard to see how that actually happens. Guess there will be some in the summer that he will be able to play.

He'll be playing in the IPL which is probably worth keeping an eye on. It's not ODIs obviously but he'll be playing a lot of bowlers that will be at the world cup.

Roy, lucky to survive one ball departs on his 6th. One flash in the pan innings in SA, but there's nothing to suggest he's International Class anymore.

Hard to know who is worse right now Crawley or Roy?
Not really comparable, Roy has one of the greatest records as an International 50 overs record, and a part of the greatest partnership so he deserves leeway.

I'd pick him for the next World Cup. Yet hey if Salt goes big I may change my view.
