***Official*** England vs Sri Lanka 21st August-10th September 2024

GIMH

Norwood's on Fire
A test venue is required in Suffolk.

The amount of times I sit watching a test at home, having to draw my curtains due to sunglare, while they go off for light on my TV.
Scorching here at the southern tip of God's own peninsula as it happens, which is weird as it's been 'jacket on to walk the dog' weather all week

I looked to see if Duckett's knock here is the fastest scoring half century by an opener that's been put in. It isn't, as Chris Gayle did that in Port Elizabeth in 2007. But he does have three of the top six.

I mean it's completely unfair on him. Arrogance from the setup to play him there.

I know you ain't going to say no to playing to England but I'm not sure what he expected either.

The Jason Roy saga all over again, who if we'd just picked in the middle order, might have actually had a test career.
Somehow I don’t think Dan Lawrence would be picked to open in the Ashes Down Under! Have to feel for Roy, failed as an opener, but the one time we put him down the order, we were 0-2…

What would you do in this situation to keep the game going with bad light in the background?
It's 76-1 from 15 overs, who is it unsafe for? There are floodlights on. No obvious sign of the light improving and we could be off for ages.

Just not sure why they needed to come off in the first place and now the umpires have created a rod for their own backs. It's just daft.

It is quite bright here in East London and isn't raining. I presume things must be murky with drizzle across town.

Even the weather in Edinburgh is better than London, the rain has cleared there to get the Scotland v Australia T20 underway.

England will still win this with a good deal of ease. Sri Lanka will have a couple of session where they will play some decent/excellent cricket but it will be too much for them

6 test wins and a meh summer. Still at least Gus Atkinson will be a regular in the England team for some years to come

After having bowled pretty well, with clear plans for the top order at the very least in the first test, to be not far short of rabbit in the headlights in ideal bowling conditions is a pretty poor state of affairs. They could still possibly come good, but much of the initial advantage of bowling first has clearly been lost.

Disappointed with Sri Lanka, say what you like about the schedule, but they’ve got worse as the series has gone on when they really ought to have got better

Today has probably been the worst bowling display of any side all summer. Shame as they had competed well up to now.

Duckett has played well. Needs to go on to cash in after a below par summer.

It's not like Duckett and Pope have been faultless either. They have had plenty of loose shots. But if you keep bowling junk, you are basically inviting them to put a score on the board. I don't think whatever they do here changes the narrative much on where they are as players, but they can at least offset what has been an ordinary to poor summer for each of them.

Pope hasn’t looked convincing all summer, I’d say there are still concerns about him long-term at the very highest level, but if he can add a big score here, on paper his summer won’t look bad at all
