...though he should - when he does something to warrant selection let me know, until then I would put Johnson and Kirtley miles ahead of them. With a choice, I say Johnson - more of a test match bowler for mine and deserved a chance ages ago. Kirtley should have been in the ODI squad, and maybe I would say he's too similar to Anderson....

So 4 glorious days of sunshine (Day 1 rained out) then? :)

Well, it does look like we're going to a have an occluded front parked across the Midlands for the end of the week.

I'm expecting the most of the rain delays to be at the start of the Test, with the weekend likely to be best for play.

And I couldn't care less about the Monday, as it isn't going to be needed.

Out of interest, where do you get these weather forecasts from, Chris? Drawing pictures out of a hat?

Personally I would play Johnson mainly because he is quicker and Zimbabwe struggled badly agaist the quicks in the 1st test, also because of the statment made by Bazza above, plus IMO Johnson is a better batsman than Kirtley so make our tail stronger.

And also because I want to see if Kirtley can make the longer trip of Durham to Kent, than the wimpy effort of Lord's to Horsham in time alloted :P

The new weather forecast has changed even more.

Day 1 - Occasional showers of Biblical proportions. Look out for frogs and locusts.
Day 2 - Sunny periods and the occasional burst of plasma as the sun reaches the peak of its 11-year sunspot cycle - slip slap slop.
Day 3 - Tsunamis caused by meteorite impact. Beware of localised flooding.
Day 4 - Dry, warm, sunny. (Ha - utter rubbish. No-one will believe that)
Day 5 - Volcanic eruption, likely to cause a little additional work for the groundsman.

Weather forecast bought to you courtesy of fourhorsemenoftheapocalypse

(I did originally give it a 'dotcom' - but it's a REAL site - oops)

I'm not impressed with any forecast that changes so rapidly in such a short space of time.

Weather.co.uk in my opinion is woefully inaccurate and is only worth using if you need to convince yourself that it won't rain.

On Sunday it forecast heavy rain for Monday and it was glorious sunshine. I ignore it.

MetCheck seems reasonable, however. But I'm liking the way it's tying in with what I said earlier.

Who cares anyway...does anyone really want to watch Zimbabwe embarrass themselves again?
They are boardering on becoming Bangladesh if they continue to lose within 3 days in a test match.

From what I've seen of extensive synoptic charts (you know, those maps with white lines on), it's safe to say that Thursday is going to be dry, warm and sunny on the whole of the east coast.

Which is good.

There's then weatherfront on top of weatherfront moving in from the Atlantic Ocean through Friday to Monday, and their exact movements are very difficult to predict.

Hence, it's safe to say that there will be a few showers over the weekend, but at what point, and how hard, you might as well pull pictures out of a hat. In between the showers there will be warm and sunny spells, and there will easily be enough time to finish the Test.

Occlusion?

No, I think it's proper magic.

The wicket looks an absolute belter, outfield slow.

Question for a few years time - who scored the first ever run in a test match at The Riverside?

Answer - extras. (a wide, Heath Streak's second ball).

Which batsman made the first scoring stroke?

Answer - Tresco. Couple of balls later.

No signs of frogs or locusts yet - weather looks set fine.

Heath Streak is still class, but this Zimbabwe attack will do no good until they find someone else to be able to apply some pressure.

I think that Price will have an awful lot of bowling to do, because frankly out of Blignaut, Hondo, Ervine and Friend, you'd be hard-pressed to get a decent county bowler out of the lot of them on the form they displayed this morning.

Looking forward to a run feast this afternoon. 96-1 at lunch.

156-5 (Hondo 3 for)

What an utter shambles.

Vacancy at No 4 or 5 in the next game, I reckon.

Thorpe back - put your house on it.

<quack> Rampers?

ahem......
