Without looking it up I can't imagine Moeen has averaged above 20 with the bat in tests since the Ashes began

Sad I as I love the guy

Top order bat gets a ton and the tail falls over. Typical.

This game could go either way, hearing there is rain around though.

At least his bowling average since he got recalled would be looking pretty healthy :p

Am I reading the commentary right, that six batsmen have gotten out to some form of sweep? How memetic.

Scored so many runs using it, has been odd. Sri Lanka have let us play it and we've given them wickets playing it. Not sure if it is bad cricket by both or both playing to strengths.

The first seven wickets were but England have probably scored over 200 runs in this match with the sweep alone and in a number of cases it’s been a shot which has brought 2 or 4 and not just a risky shot for a single.

Lower than his batting average probably.

Since getting back into the side he's scored 142 runs @ 17.75 and taken 22 wickets @ 21.54. Since the start of the Ashes 349 runs @ 18.36 and 27 wickets @ 41.03

Shocking stats those, Bairstow in for him and keep Leach as a specialist for me especially as Woakes should be back for home tests giving us ridiculous batting depth.

Good 50 from Foakes, pushed us on to a solid score.

Probably done for the day now?

I'm a bit puzzled what to think of this test. SL setting wide open fields. England go sweeping, while every single batsman gets out missing the sweep, until some freak 10th wicket partnership saves the innings. Or so. Also, when Jimmy and Curran had the new ball yesterday, they were a bit unlucky not to be effective.

Is it some sort of self-fullfilling prophecy? We're in SL, so all we do is bowl spin & sweep! I'm curious how a proper test batting innings would shape itself here. And what a longer stint by Jimmy & co would bring.
