*Official* England in West Indies 2022

Had to look it up and found this. Against a pretty decent if not vintage WI team too.

Yup, I think the current side would happily take a middle order of Lara, Chanderpaul and Sarwan. The first three tests were similar. WI batted first and were under par but competitive. England in trouble but rescued by one or two of their oldies (Hussain, Butcher and Thorpe). WI bowled out cheaply enough in their second innings to decide the match. For England, it was the first sighting of the Harmison, Hoggard, Jones and Flintoff attack. Happy days.

almost every cricket team in history would take that middle order. It was a great win

I keep hearing Root say he wants to take the team forward .Surely it’s time for someone to have the bottle to tell him that he is clueless when under pressure and uses his bowlers with the same monotony match after match. He has no imagination whatsoever .Surely he must see the press sometimes who all think he should go

Great stuff West Indies.

Their three home series wins over England in the past 15 years have been all memorable to follow in their own individual way.

For all the struggles the West Indies have had in recent decades, a home series against England seems to bring out the best in them. Post-WSC, England have won more Test series in Australia than in the West Indies.

I recall in Nasser Hussain's autobiography him saying that while the West Indies bowling attack didn't have the stars of previous tours he'd faced there, the bowling he faced from the likes of Tino Best was amongst the fastest he'd faced in his career.

He also said that the tour was satisfying because there had been calls to drop him after he quit the captaincy and the tough runs the likes of older players like Butcher and himself made showed they still had value.

Btw if England fans ever need to understand why we play so much better against you than against anyone else, just check out this article from Paul Newman in the Daily Mail, as an example.

It says Kyle Mayers is a 'journeyman' and a 'trundler' and Joshua Da Silva a 'limited batsman.' Yet no word on the talent or lack thereof of messer's Woakes, Overton and Lees.

This guy knows nothing about Josh, who is actually an attacking opener in white ball cricket with lots of shots, but one with the discipline to put them away if required. Mayers took wickets against South Africa and Sri Lanka and of course played one of the ATG knocks just last year.

Your journalists do this every tour. Tbf sometimes even your management does it. You'd think years of getting beaten in the Caribbean would teach them to shut up. But nope, it's every single time.
The issue is that they need to add so much emotive crap to the issues, which are much less complex than is made out to be. They do it to create reaction and stir emotion, which unfortunately the readers buy into and react to.

A headline of 'England's technique isn't good enough and their academy is not producing Test players with solid enough technique on, or outside off stump' is very boring to your average Daily Mail reader. Michael Vaughan did the same, saying England's 'spirit' isn't strong enough. Bullshit. Their techniques are rubbish and are exposed by any sideways movement - Mayers or Malcolm Marshall pace - that is on or outside their eye line. It's the same horse **** that gets peddled out around the world, and unfortunately the readership buy into it.

I remember Ian Healy (who couldn't read a game if he was stood in front of a mirror with it etched into his forehead) blaming the 'WAGS' for Australia's failure to score runs on I think it was the 2013 Ashes Tour. Bloody laughable. No, they don't get their front pad out the way. It's often that simple.

Issue is, who takes over? Absolutely no one near fit to take the role.

That batting lineup is waaaay better than anything on display in this match, Root apart. Gayle and Sarwan averaging 40 plus, Shiv and Lara 50 plus.

That England pace attack was seriously good.
Both sides far stronger than the current ones. Both sides had good batting line ups they would love to have now.

Buttler the other (semi-) serious option.

His tactical acumen is spoke of in glowing terms and he could fit right in as a straight swap for Foakes, whose batting looks a bit short at this level against seam.

There has been a lot of reflection back to the 87-97 years as low points of English cricket.

I've been looking and certainly there was some bonkers selection in the period. However, despite the inconsistency in selection there were quality test performers up against some of the finest who ever played the game.

Well as the Windies have played this has not been the case here. Root is up there with the best post war bats England has produced, Stokes is proven quality but as for the rest... well, they wouldn't get into a 1992 squad.

Root must stand down, that's clear now, and in the short term we must expect some heavy defeats until we can play Test Cricket once again.

As for Windies, World Cricket is always better when they're strong. Seales looks a gem and others are playing within their limits. Lets hope they can grow and develop.

Tbf I'd say the current west indies bowling lineup is in a different league from that one. Best and Edwards were fast but nowhere near as consistent or skillful as Roach, Seales and Holder. Combining that batting lineup with this bowling lineup would have produced a world class side. Alas it wasn't meant to be.
