i reckon there is one hell of a chance of this record being broken within a couple of years, given the domination of the bat over ball these days
Undoubtedly. Two triple hundreds in three weeks and three in about six months.

I think that there's a fairly decent chance of this record being broken within a couple of days... Vaughanie's due.
That would certainly be newsworthy.

Andy Roberts is giving Lara a bit of stck here, for thinking of records instead of the result of the game

I can't understand the slowness of the scoring after lunch - I can see no justification at all in continuing past 400 should he reach it.

That's a pile of old guff, though.
What's more significant for West Indian cricket - 'Brian Lara, World Record Holder', or 'Brian Lara, Loser of Test Series 3-1'?

I give Lara the benefit of the doubt here, because he said he wanted 700-750 since yesterday morning.

I wish Andy Roberts and Tony Greig would shut up. Brian Lara has just scored 400, Roberts is claiming this to be a shameful moment in the history of West Indies cricket and that Lara is some sort of dictator with supreme power over the team, Richards, Logie et al. Imagine someone overpowering Viv Richards...

Well they have declared now with the 750 up, Lara 400* in the end.

Shut up Andy Roberts. LE has a point, posterity will remember 400*, not the fact that they did or didn't win. What is likely to lift West Indian spirits more, having the world record once again or winning a dead rubber?

lol thats a stupid comment by andy roberts and tony greig...well he just agrees with anyone in the commnetary box doesnt he?well done to lara and its amazing how u could be not out on both occasions...just goes to show that once he gets going its very difficult to get him out. was it a chanceless innings too?
so how many people think england can lose this game with over 8 sessions to bat?im sure we'll suddenly see tresco "regaining" his form today and then see him fail in the next 3 tests against the NZ.(4th test is at the oval if im correct?)

Vaughan out caught behind. Terrible decision apparently. Oh well, WI have an opening to exploit here.

Botham's thought was that you could get another ball between the real one and the bat. My immediate thought was that Lara looked far more out on 0 than Vaughan did on 7.

Let's just say that if Bucknor had given that against Tendulkar, certain members would have spent the next year screaming about discrimination.

If Trescothick scores runs here and others fail, then why should his be the name to be under fire?

Interesting to note that England bowled 202 overs, and conceded 2 wides and 5 no balls.

I get the impression that despite the score they did bowl with control and discipline.
