I read at Cricinfo that Simon Jones could be in trouble for over-celebrating after taking a wicket?

Yep... He gave Sarwan a whole volley of abuse after his Dismissal... It was almost andre nel like...

Disappointed by the Sarwan LB decision. I thought it would have hit leg stump, as Hawkeye suggested, but those kind of "70-30" decisions have consistently been given not out all series, as indeed they were later on with, I think, Hoggard bowling to Collins.

Still, how many identical dismissals does it take for Sarwan to learn from his mistakes?! It took him at least 2 years with the hook/pull so I guess we'll have to endure more LBs to straight balls while playing across the line.

Re: Trescothick - sounded like a very good ball.

As it stands, I think they're going the Ausralian way - win it tonight.

What effect would that have on the West Indian bowlers confidence?

How ridiculous....is the light really that bad?
Only 28 runs needed & the light was offered to the fielding team!?

It's pitch black now... but the batsman were happy to stay out, but the way the English batsman were hitting the ball all over the show, I supose the umpires feared for the fielders safety.

As Liam will vouch for, when the light goes in the WI's it goes very very quickly, it's not like it's just a tad murky 10 mins after the first reading it's pitch black almost.

When I lived in the tropics (Malaysia) at 5.30 it would be bright. At 6.00, pretty well, the sun set. As kids we would all then race up to the top of the 5 metre diving board and watch the tail-end of the sunset for a second time. Then dive into the pool, out again and race up the hill overlooking the pool area and squash courts.

You could just about get there and see a third sunset.

When we got back to the pool, it would be pitch black - about 10 minutes was all it took.

Er, when I said 'all' I meant me and my mate Paul. We were the only two idiots to be fascinated by that sort of thing.

Anyway, back to the cricket. Another excellent day for England nipped a really good West Indian fightback in the bud.

He got a shooter, pretty well.
It was almost identical to the ball with which Jones got Gayle earlier in the day. I'm not entirely convinced there is any particularly good defence to that.

But it's another chance he's missed. If they want to carry on picking him, fine - I still think he's good enough. But that doesn't mean I'm not wondering if Strauss wouldn't be better.

Cheers,

Mike

If they go into the final test at 2-0 or 3-0, and he's had another mare in the third, then might be the time to rest Tresco.

Me? I'm looking forward to the ODI's already - Rikki time. That'll be the time to bring the duck's column back. Can't beat a bit of Clarkewatch.

Actually it appears that both the batsmen and fielders wanted to carry on, but the umpires decided to call it off.

One could argue that had they not had 4 or 5 1-2 minute discussions about the light in the last 2 overs of play, the game would be over by now!

Some words come to mind, 'gutless' being the most prominent. It seems only Jacobs knows how to bat...

Ah well, "The harder the struggle, the sweeter the victory."

Jacobs promoted ahead of Lara and Chanders...

Hows that for a statement?? Pretty poor tactically though
Superb tactics IMO. Lara was feeling the pressure. I think he realized that he was struggling and the amount of expectations placed on him (unfairly), so he tried to give himself enough time to regroup. He may also have been feeling his pinky finger. Alas, it failed.

Jacobs came out in his ideal situation. He's tailor-made for the rear-guard action and he did it in style today. I think his innings deserved a century, but he got a good one from Jones.

Chanderpaul appeared to be getting back into form. If he can be as selective as he was in this innings (until he perished), he'll get runs. Sarwan needs to get forward and Bowden needs to take less than 30-45 seconds to give an LBW decision. If you take that long, there must be doubt. If there's doubt, it's not out.

Thats a bit rubbish :) lots of umpires take time, Bucknor for one! The fact it was shown that he was indeed out from TV replays shows he made the right choice to think about it and give it out.

Also it cant help team moral if the captain has to drop himself 2 places down the order cos he feels his batting isnt up to the task.
