**Official** England in The West Indies

2/33.......not a good start by England. Butcher and Hussain need to a partnership going to stop any rot setting in!

This is a good line from the Cricinfo Scorer:

9.3 Edwards to Hussain, no run, great ball, more outswing, beats the bat, the man is on fire. (Proverbially of course.)

17.5 Sanford to Hussain, legbye: one run, down the leg side, and there's the 50 for England
England should be happy with that, making 50 isn't always a guarantee for them in the West Indies

18.6 Best to Butcher, no run, short of a length, and Butcher ducks into it, taken on the helmet, and there's some music to listen to over the break

now those are funny

england are slowly (mainly due to WI's slow over rate) dragging themselves back into a strong position

Absolutely! There's no fun in watching sport if you aren't totally and utterly supporting one side! [/B]
I disagree.

Hence I'm going to go all out to get a ticket for India-Pakistan in September.

England? 4 wickets sounds about right, but if England get away that quickly, surely some timewasting will ensue. ;)
The pre lunch Over Rate was bad enough and the Windies were on top then!

As soon as England turn up, Suddenly the Windies can bat again, funny that.
Erm 311 all out on a 400+ wicket isn't that good.

And so England's attack isn't as good as the South Africans, but then again, whic attack is?

Maybe I took it a touch far, but it's always better with a side to support (like Porto :))

I don't know which Collymore you've been watching, but he's one of the most dedicated players I can think of. He always seems to bowl and bat with heart and effort.

Also, he didn't play against Australia. :P
Liam I think you are mistaken, he played in all 7 One Day Internationals vs Australia.

I said when I have seen him play, I never said in a certian form. But I don't disagree that he does bowl and bat with heart and effort, but even I don't think i've ever seen the guy simile not even when he has taken a wicket, he always just looks bored :saint:

I was referring to Test cricket. :P

Agreed that he doesn't smile much, but I don't think he looks bored per se.

I think Best bowled very promisingly, especially given the talking down he's gotten from some. He definitely has potential and I like his enthusiasm.

Fidel Edwards bowled exceptionally and was encouragingly accurate.

Corey Collymore was the solid bowler required in the lineup. He played the Flintoff/Harmison role today and bowled line and length nicely.

Adam Sanford... well he really wasn't shocking was he. Why is he in the team again?

Jones didn't appear that bad in batting in his small amount of Tests.
Thing is, that single was a very, very deceptive thing.
If you've had the opportunity to see him bat in nets, lots of times (as I have) you'll realise he really is no better than someone like Angus Fraser or Alan Mullally (in slogging moods - of course they could both be Hoggards on their days too).

Fidel Edwards bowled brilliantly, as did Best.

Apart from that, they lack firepower.

Butcher and Hussain now more settled (before the rain had other ideas) because of the Collymore and Sanford spells.

and tresco fails again...what a surprise

The guy is living on borrowed time.. He doesnt look the real deal anymore, just an ugly flat track bully who wont move his feet....

If Tresco does sod all this tour, who would you guys have opening the batting against the Kiwis this summer???

I remember the West Indies bowling this time last year, and it seemed really really powderpuff... The kind of pace you see in grade cricket... However Edwards and Best look to have something good about them (Best has sorted his action out thank god)... And when do you guys see Lawson coming back?? He is impressive....

I wouldn't call Best a rabbit. He scored 20* on debut against Australia and avges 12odd in FC cricket.

That said, he's not a number 8 by any stretch.
12-odd! Hmm, that's impressive. :saint:
For me, someone needs a FC average of about 15 for their batting to be considered worthy of mention.

I really don't think the West Indies bowled that badly. I think that they were far more disciplined than at recent times, but Hussain and Butcher ground it out and now are finding how good a pitch this is - like Hinds and Smith did.

As Michael Holding said, day two should be the best day for batting on this pitch.

West Indian criticises other country for poor over rate.

Now I've read everything..
Just because his countrymen aren't flash at it doesn't mean he has no right to point-out the inadequecies of others.
And the over-rate has been abysmal in this match.
