It's not so much the team picks as the scheduling. Who are they going to choose when it's sandwiched between Test Series in Pakistan and NZ? A couple of them were a bit weird, but it was mostly the best available. The likes of Duckett, Buttler, Root, Brook, Stokes, Atkinson, Potts, Carse all improve that team.

Anyway, wouldn't look too deeply into it. The ball did loads for the first 12 overs or so and then the pitch went so flat even Archer got runs. 17 out of 19 matches at North Sound and Bridgetown have now been won by the team chasing.

Areas that do need addressing are the obvious deficiencies with Cox, I'm sure it's not gone unnoticed in NZ. And not sure why we still play Rashid? Been a while since he had a big impact on a game it seems, surely this was a series to try out alternatives (Rehan?).

Yes, when England lose it's always because of unfair pitches and the toss.

This would have been a better team :

1.Phil Salt
2.Ed Barnard
3.OG Robinson (WK)
4.Sam Hain
5.Will Jacks
6.Liam Livingstone
7.Sam Curran
8.Rehan Ahmed
9.Adil Rashid
10.Jofra Archer
11.Reece Topley/John Turner

Archer, Topley/Turner, Curran & Barnard as your seamers ..

Rashid, Ahmed , Livingstone & Jacks as your spinners + Good batting depth

We undoubtedly benefitted from the toss in the 2nd ODI. WI were the all round better side in this series, but it still didn't stop them losing that game (largely because they were 20-2 after about 8 overs on what soon turned into again a very flat deck). If the stats say 17 out of 19 games are won by the team chasing, it's pretty obvious what teams would want to do at the toss.

Not sure why you ignore these kind of things when they're clearly factors.

It will be interesting to see how Baz addresses this. We simply have to get our best ODI players playing the format more often.

Completely agree. You look at Aus, Steve Smith played in England and is now playing against Pakistan. No reason why Root shouldn't be doing similar if the scheduling was a bit smarter.

Our top order going well with their career averages:

King- 30.22
Lewis- 38.98
Carty- 41.95
Hope- 49.92
Sherfane- 66.00
Hetmyer- 32.06
Chase- 27.22
Shepherd- 17.47
Forde- 20.66
Motie- 20.00
Alzarri- 16.38
Pooran hopefully to come back, who averages 40. At this rate, he slots in for Hety.

Batting certainly isn't our problem anymore. Yes we need to continue the good work to lower the dot ball percentage, but it's a pretty damn good lineup.

The bowling needs so much work still.

I thought the WI bowling went alright. Outside of the first 10 overs or so there wasn't a lot in for the bowlers. They effectively won the two games, keeping England to well under par totals.

I'm more concerned about English bowling, the likes of Archer, Topley and Rashid are miles off their best.

The latter two, I'm not sure should be part of the team moving forward. Surely Rashid isn't far off retirement now, no matter how good he has been?

He may well be the best we've still got (a bit like Anderson), but not sure that helps us going forward. I think he should be encouraged to meet up with a couple of distinct silhouettes as the outdoor sun is sucked into a horizonless neon-red darkness!!
