As Brumby once said, it's the hope that gets you. Best way for Broad to play now is heave IMO.

Nah, there's 20-30 runs easily out of these two if they bat properly. Need to put the pressure back on the opposition rather than just blindly heaving.

Yup, we're back to the situation of before where he's got a bit of a license, or at least he won't look like as much of a dick if gets out that way.

And yet another dumb **** gives it away with an ill-judged sweep shot. They really didn't want to win this test did they? Granted it was the first innings that really cost us, but they just seem incapable of learning. Thick as pig****, most of them.

Bloody hell whats going on here? last time i checked Trott and Prior were in cruise control and SL's attack looked utterly fruitless, now all of a sudden England are on the brink of defeat? *smh* i can't believe England have let it slip like this, and to think this team was getting compared to the great WI and Australian teams of the past  .

if you think about it, Thirimanne's catch really was lucky as ****, because I mean he should not have been anticipating a sweep shot off the middle of the bat.

Here's an idea, play the sweep in front of square if it's outside the line of off stump. Play the finer sweep if it's angling down leg. Play straight if the ball is straight.

He's not wrong is he? The batting went beyond clueless innings ago.

It's what professional bowlers should be able to do. Professional batsmen should be able to cope with it.
Oh yeah but you can't exactly say that Randiv was bowling pies - he was clearly trying to get Trott out like that and succeeded.

Terrible stuff from england... its like they think the sweep is the only thing that can combat spin... and to think Andy Flower was a great sweeper

Herath, though, WAFG! He's had a brilliant few months... first that match winning perfomance in South Africa, now 12 wickets here

We need to bring in a proper batsman... it's different if it's just a one-off for the next match, but there's no point at all playing four seamers and Swann when we get back home.
I'm thinking something like this as an ideal:

1) Cook, 2) Strauss, 3) Trott, 4) Hales, 5) Bairstow, 6) Prior, 7) Broad, 8) Swann, 9) Anderson, 10) Finn, 11) Panesar in the SC.

That's three seamers; IMO most sides would struggle to consistently get past 250 against such a bowling attack.

In England I agree that another batsmen might be included in the best team in place of Monty, although I can easily imagine Monty being picked against SA who sometimes struggle against spin and are mostly RHBs.

I just feel that Finn almost demands inclusion because he has become so awesome of late and with Broad and Anderson pretty much guarantees you can control the batting side even if you lose a critical toss.

Harsh on Bresnan in particular given how well he's done with bat and ball but I believe that he should be used as cover - the unluckiest 12th man in the world! - and as a guy to keep the pressure on the three frontline seamers.

Still counting on Broad to prove his stud status today and take England over the line...
