All about the first session. Ifr Trott & KP bat through that, I reckon we'll win. Can't see Bell, Prior or Patel guiding us to another 240 if one goes early on current form, hope I'm wrong.

Interestingly poised this one - I'm wondering whether a sickie is in order - I do get these dreadful migraines you see, and if I stayed at home all morning I could probably get in for the afternoon

Certainly is, like you say if KP & Trott can play themselves in and steadily start chipping away at the score, it will then come down to building partnerships, every player that comes in has to contribute and gradually knock the runs off. That means remaining positive but at the same time playing sensibly and definitely don't get too bogged down.

The encouraging signs from the 1st innings was that Bell looked very good and confident till he got that jaffa and Prior can usually dig in and score at a good rate with the tail if need be.

If they do manage play well and win this game it will give them huge confidence moving forward imo even though everyone might not have contributed.

I have decided that if we make it through wicketless by the time my alarm goes off tomorrow (8am) we will win.
I'm wondering if it's worth getting up for the start? I have to be in pretty early for a meeting anyway. But then again... is it just going to be a waste of time getting up?

In all likelihood we will be 6 down at lunch so no.

However it has to be said Herath is NOT Adjmal, and Randiv is not as accurate a backup as Rehman. We couldn't move the scoreboard at all with them on, hence why it turned into a car crash. At least we seem to be trying to tick it over now, and we'll also have Lakmal coming on with a few pie overs for KP if he stays in. If the pitch hasn't crumbled over night we have a chance.

Yeah... I can see all our batsman playing the 'supporting 50' role but I'm not confident any of them can get the 100 that someone probably needs to get if we're going to get close.

Would give it a call at Lunch. If we haven't lost a wicket do everything in your power. Obviously this all depends on whether you have to leave before 7:30

I've got up at 6:00am last couple of days. Will be pretty annoyed if I get up early again to see our batsmen fail miserably.

Aim to get up at half 5 for this tomorrow, well that's the plan anyway. SL still in the box seat for me, hope it's not the case that two relatively set batsmen overnight fall early the following morning. Trott the key man for me as he has the ability to bat risk-free for long periods, plays spin well and will bat in his own unflappable style regardless.

Was encouraged by the way Bell went in the first innings, looked in top nick and can hopefully play a winning hand tomorrow.

Going to make myself get up today, I know if I don't they will be 8 or 9 down by the time I wake up, but If im awake by 6 they will reward me right?

What do you think Herath's bowling figures will be at the end of the innings: I'm going to go for 48-9-133-4.

Poor again from KP, appreciate he's trying to use his feet to nullify any sharp spin on this fourth day pitch but it was a bit tame and loose from him so early.

Why do you think they're so abysmal against spin? Is it a failure to read length and dip that's getting them? Or is it just a psychological thing, being unaccustomed to playing above-average, accurate spin bowling? The pitches haven't exactly been rank turners either. Ajmal, Rahman, Herath aren't big spinners of the ball either.

They are abysmal against spin because they hit the ball in the air. Bradman (1928, 1).

Ajmal is a completely different kettle of fish, it was an overall inability to pick his doosra that caused the downfall of many by causing such indecision. We have struggled in these conditions in a similar way the sub-continental sides struggle on our livelier greener tracks, it's simply something away from our familiar conditions. It is important we see some improvements in these conditions though if we wish to retain our number one status.

and Ajmal's doosra was extremely accurate too which kept on playing on hte minds of the English. Ajmal's doosra is significantly more lethal than even Saqlain's doosra I think.

Also I think it is more to do with the slow pace of the wickets with the ball not coming onto the bat quite as nicely as in England which causes problems.

The reverse is true for the SC batsmen in England where the ball comes on quicker than in the SC and with lateral movement in the air and off the pitch it becomes a very different challenge
