It's strange, Mahela and Sanga used to be known for the big partnerships they'd routinely put together. But for the last two years or so, they've almost never scored runs at the same time. When one fails, the other scores and vice versa. Very disappointing for anyone who loves to watch them bat in tandem.

Are you insane?

We have a number of top order players who are averaging in single figures or low teens over a number of Tests in SC-like conditions - and regularly being shown up by tail enders like Anderson and Swann while they're at it - and the best you've got is that none of the youngsters coming through looks like being the next Viv Richards or Brian Lara?

The way KP, Bell and co have been playing, they only have to be approximately as good with the bat as Jonty Rhodes to be a marked improvement.

And please don't bring me inflated averages in response - someone like Bell as far as I'm concerned is a high thirties average guy and KP a low forties man in any sort of representative era, and if you want support for that contention see how they've performed of late whenever confronted by any sort of meaningful bowling challenges even in this age of (mostly) clusterf**kers runfests.
First of all, your general posting in here is on report for being condescending to other members. Secondly, don't avoid the filter.

Now that's out of the way...

Your argument is fallacious. If you drop someone, you must bring in someone with higher chances of success or the change actively hurts your side.

James Taylor has been very hit and miss for the Lions iirc, and county cricket hasn't started for the season, so anyone you replace the incumbents with has no form to speak of.

Bell was extremely successful for two seasons prior to this one, and KP, whilst inconsistent, still merits his place. However, judging by this -

- Anything I write will have no effect on your opinion, because you have already made your judgements based upon what you would like to be the case in your ideal fantasy world, rather than what is reality. The reality is, Bell scores his runs at an average of 47 and KP at 48. Your opinion does not change those numbers or the last two years of cricket, where KP and particularly Bell have been vital cogs in a world number one side.

As for the present situation, we need wickets regularly, don't we? 30 for 3 looks good, but we know these two can bat all week if they get in on these tracks. I'd have kept one of the quicks on for Samarweera fwiw.

What does the bolded mean?

Now that's out of the way...

No, my argument is not fallacious. You can't know for sure how good someone is unless he's been tried; what is quite clear from what we have seen in UAE and so far here is that Bell and KP are simply not good enough against this type of bowling in these conditions.

Neither you nor I nor anyone else can second guess how someone will perform. When someone is not performing, he should be dropped. If that does not happen (on the unproven contention that there's nobody better out there) there is no pressure on the incumbents to perform, or to get better, or to iron out their weaknesses.

By mentioning Taylor you create a straw man by implying that I am recommending that Bell/KP should be replaced by him. I have not done so. He is not the only option; there are probably three or four batsmen that I would play ahead of him and whom I am confident would, given time, acquit themselves better against the likes of Ajmal, Rehman, and Herath than Bell anbd KP have done. But first they must be given the chance.

As for reporting me, that information could quite easily have been conveyed in a PM. As far as I'm aware, I haven't been banned; until I am, you might as well keep your thoughts about my posting to yourself.

For the record - given that you have in the past felt inclined to give me your unsolicited opinions as to the quality of my posting - I find your posting to be, not condescending, but, worse: petty and stupid - as in your reference to my "ideal fantasy world", when you know full well what I meant, and have yourself probably made similar types of mental adjustment in the past. I don't hold such malicious flights of fancy against you, for it seems you have very little else to offer.

Hey I still think this guy is fun.

Just one question, who are these 3 or 4 batsmen?
