What did Boycott say about Herath yesterday? Something along the lines of mum would enjoy etc, wasn't it?

To be fair to Bell, "playing positively" is the right call and certainly the best approach for him at this point. His confidence is so shot that he doesn't have a 'normal' batting mode to fall back on, and feels compelled to play some shots to play himself into form. And he is aware that just blocking as he and others did against Ajmal and co would only stall the innings and psyche out the guys waiting to bat.

My fear is that he usually overcooks it and attempts shots that just aren't on when batting like this; for instance he has a habit of getting out to extravagant shots against pretty unthreatening deliveries that he would have coped with very efficiently in his normal batting mode.

IMO he should adopt a modified version of "positive" which embraces using his feet and getting to the pitch of the ball just to push and nudge it for singles and twos, and deliberately eschew the big shot. After a while I think the spinners would become dispirited as there's nothing too threatening in the pitch.

I was joking initially about the century partnership but I genuinely believe that if he knuckles down and uses his undoubted skill to bat like this he could make a substantial contribution here.

I have never, ever seen Bell do that against spin.

Meanwhile, in KP-land...

So much for travel broadening the mind - clearly this lot learnt **** all from their time in the UAE.
