You may aswell play Bell/Collingwood/Pietersen than Batty
Yea any of those would do as they can bowl a bit if needs be, radio says they started 20 minutes late this morning (when it was cloudy conditions which England have had a massive 10-15 minutes of so far - as is consistent with their usual shafting by the elements in this series)

Yay! Ash's back, moving rather gingerly still tho.

Jimmy's getting a bit of swing, but for all the work he's supposedly done on his action he still bowls with his face down.

yeah its about the first good ball he (Harmison)bowled, cut back bounced over middle
To be honest, Harmison has increasingly been a complete disgrace on this tour. Never mind the fact that he was supposed to be the number 1 in the world a few months back, simply by dint of being a professional bowler he should be able to find line & length far more often than he has done. I know some will say this is just because he's now bowling at a decent side again, but there's no way he'd have taken 60+ wickets in 2004 bowling this sort of tripe, whoever it was against. It's almost as if years of coasting at Durham and never sorting out his basic technique have again taken precendent over the sorting out that Cooley managed last year. Once again, big questions have to be asked about his attitude if he can let it go as badly as he has done this winter.

It's the wicket-getter!

If Gilo's injured - then that brings in Batty :(
Is there actually any geniune good spinners in England to take over from Giles?

Otherwise Vaughan should start to roll his arm over a lot more.

If his attitude is the problem, then it is high-time somebody in England's selection committee and Duncan Fletcher give him a serve to tell him to pull his finger out or maybe not to take his England selections for granted.

Those with a poor attitude don't even deserve to be playing for Norway.

I suggest you refrain from calling Harmison a complete disgrace and questioning his attitude when you have absolutely no idea what he's been doing over the past few months. It's obvious he's worked on his batting and maybe he's worked too hard on that compared to the bowling and lost his rhythm bowling-wise - he's still trying as hard, maybe harder than ever.

Keedy @ Lancs (SLA) is the one most often mentioned (72 wickets @ 25.68 in '04), but he's 30 now & can't bat for toffee.

Other than him, God, dunno! Richard Dawson has gone backwards (141 first class wickets @ a shade over 41 overall now) & Graeme Swann from Northants (who can at least bat a bit) took 30 @ about 40 last year.

Cupboard pretty much bare! :(

Good riddance Kallis - Keedy is a waste of time, he's just benefitted from the Old Trafford pitch with Murali there (on and off).

What is absolutely certain is that his performance in this series doesn't merit being in the side. Obviously what he did last year has rightly kept him in up till now, but I think we're getting very close to the point where his selection or otherwise becomes a very fair question.
The crying shame about today's effort is that the wicket is one where things will regularly happen if the bowlers are good enough to bowl straight. You can only wonder what someone like Jon Lewis or Bicknell would have done on it.

England declared too soon, what happened to playing for the draw??
It was prime bowling conditions in the morning (overcast, muggy, damp etc.) - the start was delayed for 20 minutes and the clouds disappeared shortly after the declaration came.

PS is it me is the server on here rubbish today?
