I like the idea that the defeat was Topley's fault, and not England's completely inept batting.
Not entirely his fault of course but he was a big factor in the field.

When's Finn fit BTW?

Anyway this is all prep for the World Cup.

Plusses, Chris Jordan solid in all three disciplines, the spinners did fine turned the ball and nearly turned the match, Hales and Roy can get us off to a flier. General fight to try to defend a total that should have been undefendable.

minuses, horrible collapsing middle-order with suicidal tendencies and we still in every ****ing form of the game perform hideously in the field under pressure. It's the main drawback of this England side IMHO.

I don't know how much of a plus Jordan being good is, tbh, especially if it ends in defeat anyway. At this point I still think I'd be hoping for him to bum out so Finn took his place when he was fit.

Nah, I quite rate him in T20, I don't want him in any other form, but he kinda does alright in them, and not sure we need Topley and Willey, Quite frankly I'm so obsessed with our bad fielding, I don't want to drop someone who is doing okay, and is outstanding at that discipline. Finn can come in for topley.

Topley had one bad game, dropping him now would be a mistake.
It's not about dropping him, it's about not retaining him when Finn is back. I would have felt this before this match that he should be the one to go, tall death bowler who doesn't bat, same role. He's only playing because Finn is injured.

Moeen's batting like a complete ****** now. The only thing worse than his technique currently seems to be his mindset when batting.

However I have some sympathy with him and in particular Stokes. They're both been asked to play all 3 formats, bat all over the top 8 and be one of the bowlers. Getting one aspect of your game right in one format is hard enough but what these two are being asked to do seems extremely tough. Can't help but feel that they need fixed positions in the batting where they know how to bat- or to drop one format of the game. It would get completely panned by the fans and press but if Stokes were to be dropped from ODI or T20 (probably t20) for a period I feel it will do his game good. They're both just spread too thin imo. Trying to adjust too muuch. Almost an impossible task.

Also and this is tenuous of me and I keep harping back to Buttler being taken on the test tour for two months to carry bags and give throwdowns. Seems like such a colossus waste of time and such an awful use of resources. Just asking for burnout. Feels like one of our key players will go to the world t20 having been on the road for months doing nothing. Really hope it doesn't backfire.

I think it's looking more like Willey being the guy to drop out at present. Others favoured to bowl at the death, not batting until 10, and not taking wickets with the new ball. Doesn't exactly look trusted by Morgan and Bayliss.

I don't think it matters particularly. Can't see them winning with the bowling attack and they're all much of the sameness. Can't see Willey or Jordan (or Woakes) lasting longterm. Rashid was pretty luck today as well. Bowled a terrible first over.

If they want to win they must give the gloves to Billings, Buttler can have them back after the world cup but please lets concentrate on winning games now not in the future.

If they're both in the side I think I'd keep Buttler with the gloves. Billings is the much better of the two fielding elsewhere.
