Oh yeah...

Lyon and Ashwin average over 40 runs per dismissal against Cook. Mamuddullah and Williamson average over 70 vs Cook. The captain has been very consistent and very good against spin.
Lyon has definitely caused Cook problems over the last two series.

Source for this? Seems too high for Lyon and Williamson IMO.

Well yes but I can't see any other reason unless he had a massage and took some pills and will give it a go today.

Compo looking busy today.
Unless they know its an impact type injury and it won't rip I can't see why you'd have him on the park. Seems like madness to me if not.

Interesting how some of the people England have put to open, with a slight emphasis on wanting a more aggressive approach at the top of the order, have really struggled to get the scoreboard ticking over.

Batting records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo

Not that I'm complaining at all with Hales' approach, just quite interesting given some of the complaints made towards other top order bats we've had.

Slog sweep as I type...

SA really struggle against Australia and England at home, don't they?

They really miss Philander's lower-order batting, plus his fabulous home record with the ball.

I agree but Cook still scores plenty of runs against him.

I've misinterpreted the figures from cricinfo. It's average in innings where x bowler has dismissed Cook.

I can't find any accurate bowler vs batsmen data on cricinfo. Might be difficult/impossible to find the stats I'm looking for...

Have just woken up, please explain.
Steyn was unable to complete an over and left the field due to a shoulder injury. As yet, we don't know when he'll be back in action.

EDIT
Beaten to it.

btw what's the story with Philander?

I don't really remember Cook scoring bucketloads of runs against Lyon, but I definitely remember him getting Cook out a fair few times.

I mean, in which series did Cook score all these runs? There have only been three.

Yeah, they don't make it publicly available, which is annoying. If you want to find that stuff out you either need to keep track of ball by ball data or hope someone else who does is kind enough to tell it to you.

Every 40 balls maybe the figure but that seems a bit high too.
