Eh? Since when is batting low(ish) good for batting average in limited overs cricket?

It's far easier to get a good average batting higher up because you almost always have the chance to build an innings, get in and score 100-150.
I see what you're getting at, but batting lower down you'll get more not outs, and so your average should be pretty healthy.

Well currently Behardien has aaverage 50 this last year... should we make him bat at 3 or 4?

ETA averaging 48 with scores of

38, 23*, 4*, 16, 22, 33*, 18, 35*, 40, 70, 15, 12, 36, 64*, 10*

That 23* was a shocking innings. If you're playing for not outs and trying to pick 1s and 2s into gaps then yea you'll get a good average but it isn't great for the team. About the only guy who's done it well is Bevan and that's a totally different era.

If you're trying to get as many possible, playing selflessly then slogging at the death won't do your average any good.

A few of those knocks were pretty good, there is no way he was playing for the not out. I refuse to believe that.

ETA:
Regardless, it is unacceptable for a no 5 to be averaging under 30, when all you expect from him is to slog it around, and not preparing for the fact that there might be early wickets.

Yeah Stokes is a bit of a conundrum. He's in the team for balance reasons above all, plus he's earnt his place entirely on the potential of what he could do rather than tangible performances. He's also not consistent enough with the ball but ultimately he's more than good enough as a sixth bowler.

He's also better up the order at 5 than he ever would be down the order, so he limits the ability to change up the batting order a bit. Really his place in the team in dependent on Morgan not having his long spells of being horrible, which is where someone like Taylor is very unlucky not to be in the team. He's worth sticking with for both long term potential and balance though.

Taylor needs to be at 5... If the top 4 come off the chances are the score will be huge anyway... Need a proper batsman there to anchor the innings when the top 4 fails.

I know Wiese hit two sixes but I still think it wasn't good cricket.

Can't criticise Behardien for his shot and then praise Wiese

I was planning to get out, as I figured the chase would be a rather easy one. But the three early wickets convinced me otherwise. In the end , I feel a bit deceived. Though I must say the Amla-ABdV partnership was a good one to watch.
