***Official*** England in Pakistan

Pakistan are really very good.

If they can get good pair of settled openers and a replacement for Sami they would challenge anyone in world cricket in tests too and this includes Australia.

The other worrying thing could be over reliance on Inzy INSPITE of having so many good batsmen. I suspect if Inzy was to go through a bad patch, Pakistan's resilience in a crisis would e sorely tested. I could be wrong but it appears so to me. He holds the rest of the talented batting side together. He is the corner stone without which they COULD collapse under pressure.

Akmal is a huge bonus for Pakistan. He will become as valuable to Pakistan as Gilchrist is to Australia in test cricket.

by the way, is it just me does everyone else think it's funny when botham talks about ball reverse swinging from the very first ball of the inning.
every third word out of his mouth was 'reverse' during test matches. I think he had Udal doing it at one point... ;)

It's great to see so much praise being heaped on the Pakistani kids BUT... let's not count our chickens before they are hatched. :) I'd wait for the series to finish before making any sort of a comment of Pakistan's placement in the ODI pantheon.

And they're gonna peak around about the World Cup by the looks of things too - 24 months together as a unit.

7-1 with BetFred with a third of the odds each way 1-2. Looks good to me.
When I thought they could win the World Cup a lot of funny reactions happened in a thread which look quite silly now.

Any team other than the minnows can win the World Cup. West Indies won the last Champion's Trophy. I think the World Cup is ridiculous. A team can dominate the rest of the world consistently for 4 years, have one bad match, and then be out of it. Pakistan were looking good to have a chance at winning the last World Cup, but failed miserably. Inzamam, out of nowhere, scored at an average of only 8. The same thing can happen again.

Why do the english selectors keep persisting with Solanki he averages just 29 which is far to low from someone who is considered a limited overs specialist.
Where are guys like Cook, Joyce, Shah.

Solanki has a lot of potential. He is just not being used properly. He's just shoved in whenever and wherever. He has no chance to play an innings of substance.

Doesn't even average as many as 29 (27.40 at the moment) and that's with 12 of his 44 ODIs being against Zimbabwe. His record over the last couple of years isn't bad, but he still scores at a relatively slow rate with a rubbish average and he is nearly 30 years old already - so not much potential either really.

Solanki is an average batsmen. They should bowl him more often and turn him into an allrounder or get a better specialist batsmen. Whats wromg with playing Ian Bell in the actual 11 rather than as super sub. Also why have England stopped using Strauss and tresco as openers they were going so well!!??

Solanki bowling would not help anything. Strauss' record as an ODI opener is dismal.

Andrew Strauss ODI Opener:
Mat I NO Runs HS1 HS2 HS3 Ave 100 50 0

unfiltered 42 41 6 1345 152 100 98 38.42 2 7 1
filtered 11 11 1 469 152 98 82* 46.90 1 2 0

He scored his HS 152 and has a better avg as an opener so what are you talking about???

His two highest filtered scores there were against Bangladesh tho.

Edit: Make that three highest.

yeah but he hasnt really played against any other teams except Bangladesh (3), Australia (7) and Sri Lanka(1) as an opener. Why don't they give him a try ahead of Prior atleast. They could even try Solanki as an opener again. They should make Prior the keeper for a game and play another bowler or somthin. Why doesnt Hoggard play in the ODI's. He'd get the ball too swing and pitches the ball up more often than the likes of Harmison.

I'm so glad you're not a selector. It was explained on the previous page why Hoggard doesn't play ODIs.

Swinging ball + Solanki = caught in slips, anyway
