Brilliant bowling by Shoaib!

Judging by the batsmens' reactions this series, he must have one of the better slower balls in world cricket.

Given the amount of edges in the last couple of overs, questions have to be asked of Eng's bowlers (and batsmen as well) as it looks like a mine-field compared to how the Pakistanis coped.

Pakistan are without doubt the weakest batting line-up amongst the major countries. People criticised the WI in Aus recently but even they are better. Aside from Butt, Inzy and Mo-Yo (and only when conditions suit) the rest are hopeless.

As usual, the Pakistanis could prove me wrong and rack up a score of 500+ tomorrow but I think 230-250 is more likely.
Pretty happy to admit I was wrong :D :D

Well, it's no minefield, that's for certain. But there's some variable bounce and the variety of weapons in Shoaib's arsenal means that the batsmen can never be quite sure what sort of a ball is going to come his way.

Vaughan's dismissal was brilliant. Two fast, brutal, good length deliveries that were still rising when the keeper collected them followed by a perfect slower ball in the stumps which bamboozled Vaughan so that his short was almost a reflex evasive action.

That said, a brilliant shot there by Collingwood. :)

I think Shoaib's slower ball is so efficent because it's actually really slow compared to his average pace. A difference of 25 miles is going to be much difficult to negotiate than a difference of, say, 10 miles.

I'm guessing it says more about the batting. AFAICS they seem intent on setting up a declaration at lunchtime tomorrow and trying to bowl Pakistan out in a couple of sessions.

I gather Tresco was playing right across the line for his dismissal, which is typical of what we've seen from England. His average will look good for this series, but he's only once gone on with it in 6 innings on pretty easy tracks. As for Vaughan, it sounds like Shoiab did him quite beautifully, but once again he'd looked like going at any time.

He played a big enough role and was the most important match winner in the first test, dismissing set, frontline batsman, compared to lower order tailenders.

Comparing the impacts of the two in this series is not a sensible route to go down.
I wasn't comparing the impact, I was pointing out that if Kaneria takes 5 @ 50, then the wickets are hardly helpful for spin bowlers.

11.2 Naved-ul-Hasan to Collingwood, no run, short ball, outside off,
tries to pull it first and than drops his hand, ball takes the
outside edge and falls short of gully

*whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinge* I do feel sorry for Harmison though. A little bit.

Tresco tried to defend and played way late and far away from a ball swinging in.

Interesting that Cricinfo's "outside edge" is what I'd describe as "pretty much the middle". Was a rank shot, mind.

Sheey lunacy, but I guess they need a win to share the series.

But really to have enough runs to declare they'd have needed 500+ in about 75 overs...

Oh right. tbf it's always a nightmare going in after 2 days in the field, especially for the one over.

I wasn't being serious, but I guess they'd call it a day if they ever got 150 ahead.
