It's now looking like this line-up for the final Test, according to the BBC:

Trescothick
Bell
Vaughan
Collingwood
Pietersen
Flintoff
Jones
Giles
Hoggard
Harmison
Anderson

Why the obsession with moving Bell around the order? Surely you should leave the guys scoring the runs where they are. Seeing as Vaughan has regularly moved about in recent years, it seems a bit of a nobrainer that he should be the one to open, especially considering his former success in that position.

According to the BBC, Vaughan has doubts about opening the batting because of his knee problems, which aren't fully healed. Hence Bell opens.

Sounds like the usual barmy BBc report (they tend to just report any rubbish that someone within the England camp feeds them).

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. But according to Sky Sports, neither Cook nor Udal, nor Loudon, nor Prior are in the narrowed-down squad for the Test, so none of them will be playing. That's all we know for sure.

i would like to see Cook playing but i don't think that'll ever happen.

for the ODIs, i would play this team, prosuming Fletcher does the hounorable task and 'accindently' kicks Vaughany in the knee.

Trescothick
Prior
Strauss
Collingwood
KP
Freddie
Blackwell
Jones
Harmison
Anderson
Kabbir Ali?

at least our chances of doing something in the ODI series have improved now that Vaughan will fly home - still they'll probably replace him with Solanki and we'll be back to sqaure one...
where did you hear Vaughan is going home?

Then why don't they play Cook? This seems like more barmy selection to me (if the report is true).

Hopefully he won't play at all.
yes but you must admit the chances of him playing at this stage are much higher than the chances of him not playing..

read it on BBCi when i woke up this morning, but can't find anything to confirm it now, apart from Bell being put on stand by to replace him

It's looking like Collingwood is going to replace Strauss with Vaughan moving up the order, rather than Cook playing.
Mind you considering the other option apparently mentioned was for Bell to open rather than Cook...

Sounds like a jounalist with an overactive imagination. Hope so, anyway.
