do you reckon this first day has been all about england learning the conditions a little and getting used to such dead pitches?

or were they already full prepared for such a thing and pakistan have just batted well?

or they are still shaking off hangover/nerves?
England have actually done ok TBF, some iffy patches but some decent bowling on what looks like a flat pitch

i spose the positive thing is that the bowling is most likely to get better for them.

what about the state of the pitch? will it have significantly deteriorated to give pakistan a real advantage to batting first?

You make it sound like 168-3 is a brilliant score for Pakistan, if it's a dead pitch that's a pretty good effort from England with the new ball to come again in 20 overs.

Definitely about learning the conditions. It's taken 50 overs for the ball to start to reverse, but once it has, Freddie has been excellent. You have to take an attritional approach if you don't get wickets with the new ball, keep the runs down, build pressure. England in the second session have done that superbly.

ok cool.

scaly; sorry, didn't mean to...i spose this is more of a traditional test match compared to the new fangled blitz of the ashes series :D

still an exciting test tho.

At this moment, I'd say the match is extremely well balanced. England bounced back with their performance in the second session with some superb bowling and good luck.

Good to see Udal take a wicket - he's bowled with good shape and control.

Having seen Giles perform like, well, Giles again, it makes you wonder why it has taken so long for Udal to be picked.

Eng have played well on a flat deck to date.
