Im awake.

Baby-sitting duties are going to be the death of me.

Wicket looks flat but already bowlers are generating big spike marks.

Look on the bright side - the first three years are the worst. :D

Last game on this ground, India made 675-5 - and it shows. Very important that the bowlers plug away, line and length, line and length - a war of attrition, so to speak.

England only took Australia's scalp this summer. The last time Pakistan did so much as draw a game with them was 10 tests ago, in 1998 or so.
Thats not a fair comparison. In 99 Aus were untouchable anyone could have been whitewashed though we were unlucky to lose at Hobart in 02 it was basically Aus vs Pak A and the current Pak team have improved quite a bit since the last aussie summer Akmal, kaneria, younis they have all come of age and Pak waz without Inzi in that series

It's as fair as someone suggesting that England's confidence is likely to be low for one reason or another. That's all I was trying to infer.

Regarding the crowd: there's a fair bit of people around there, they just seem so few because the ground is pretty big. They have been slowly filtering in throughout the morning and we'll probably see quite a few latter on in the afternoon.

Its ridiculous that Pakistan have maintained a R/R of below 2.50 & its mainly because of Salman Butt who is batting with S/R of around 20.

You're actually complaining? You're 38-0 after an hour and you're complaining?

Perhaps that's indicative of how accurate the England bowlers have been? There's not exactly been much loose to have a go at - besides, that wristy flick through the covers off Flintoff stood out as the shot of the morning.

I suggest you go to bed for a month. I'll give you a shout when the one-dayers come on.

luckyeddie is spot on. England have bowled reasonably well so far and Butt in particular has looked very edgy against Hoggard.

Multan. Second oldest city in the civilised world. Huzzah.

Hoggy might have easily picked up a wicket this morning, a bit of swing there. Good solid start for Pak, just what the doctor ordered, settle into the game.

But anything below 3.0 is too low considering sides like Australia try to maintain a run rate of 3.5-4.0 in test matches. If Pakistan maintain their current R/R,they'll hardly score 250 by the end of the day.

Thanks for the gift, Tresco.

Edit: Pakistan is not Australia, Multan is not Melbourne, England is not India. The best thing during the first hour was to see off the fast bowlers without losing any wickets. They did that, the run-rate doesn't matter one whit at the moment.

You have obviously been brought up on a diet of instant cricket, so I suppose it's not your fault. Besides, after Hoggard and Harmison came out of the attack, the batsmen profited from some profligate bowling.
