I really think Afridi is getting over-rated. I'd love to see him hit a century or two against England, but we can't depend on him. He cannot be where our strenght lies.

And keep watching the telecasts to see how the Pakistani players bring English proud from sky to earth just like in the series against India early this year.
England weren't brought to earth in the series against India earlier this year - at least I don't think so.

Did I miss something? I know I drink a bit but I'm hardly likely to forget an entire series.

(When do the 2005 Ashes start? That Twenty20 was good, wasn't it)

Owais Shah!?!

Given that Giles is supposedly England's best spin bowler I don't see the point in playing someone who would therefore be even worse than him. Stick with 4 pacers and get Mick rolling his arm over in the nets more often.

Over 1500 runs @ 65+ with 7 tons this year. I know it's often dangerous basing selections on FC form, but he has a superb technique & (what with him being Pakistan-born) a familiarity with the conditions.

Got to be better get than Bell.

I thought you were creating a majority non-English England cricket team for a moment there mate. :D

Strauss = South African
Shah = Pakistani
Pietersen = South African
Flintoff = not of this planet
G Jones = Papua New Guinean Australian?
S Jones = I wish his country of birth wasn't on this planet. :p
He was brought up in Aus as well wasn't he?

i would love to see owais shah back in the england team.

he was judged good enough to play for his country before now so now hes got his form back he defintley deserves a chance.

chalk me up as another Shah fan, i mentioned it in the Ashes thread as a possible for the winter and was laughed at, imo he's better than the other options, i'd move KP up to 4 though

Shah had a decent run in the ODI side and didn't do much and his fielding is rubbish, so he's not going to be in Fletcher's good books. Also playing for Middlesex he has some pretty good batting tracks when they're playing at home.

I'd still put him behind his Irish team-mate.

I just think that Joyce has been earmarked for quite some time now, and the left handed option is also useful.

If Shah were close, he'd surely have been picked in some form this summer (ODIs maybe)

England are going to need to be able to adjust to pakistani conditions. If not they they could have a repeat of the "Sri Lankan thrashing they got last year !

I'm sure I read somewhere that he also has a stress fracture in his ankle on top of the bone spur. V bad news if so.

Assuming Jonah's fit, will we play the extra spinner? If we do I think there's a strong case for Harmy missing out. From memory Hoggy did ok-ish in India last time & we all know Harmy gets a bit weepy if he ventures below South Shields! :D

Because he is a kind of player for whom the Pakistan has been looking since the retirement of legendary Javed Miandad.He impressed many with his innings of 99 on debut against SA and then scored 2 fifties in the Lahore test against India.Many of the former cricketers have compared him with Michael Bevan.
