If he bats no6 for his county (even if it is Leic) then he should aspire to be better than that. He should be capable of the mindset of a batsman, even if his game needs to improve. Then again there is just something about batting at the bottom of the order that seems to make people think like brainless tailenders. Sometimes it’s even worse for aspiring batsmen than people like Leach (see also Hoggard, Anderson etc) who know their place and are capable of developing a role via half decent defence etc.

We were talking about Leach's batting rather than Ahmed, but I take your point entirely. Having the licence to attack doesn't mean overdoing attacking shots, or just inane heaving.
