*OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Jaiswal was facing a significantly weaker attack so it was about bowling strength as well, but yeah it's a problem in general.
Conversion is less of an issue then in the past because the line up as a whole is so much more consistent. But obviously in this match situation you need a couple of blokes going big, rather than a stack of 70s which will win you matches in England a lot of the time.

Hundreds will always be important in test cricket and Australia is also a place where you've got to make it count when you get in. Our batting is a lot better than a few years back, but they do need to be a little bit greedier.

Yeah that's the word for it. Test match batting has always been about individual greed. Valuing your wicket above anything else.

You don't reinvent that basic principle by scoring as quickly as you can and just shrugging your shoulders if you hole out on 78. I think this whole outward mantra of not caring is a front anyway. They definitely will be raging behind closed doors.

Of course they’ll always be important, but if Crawley and Duckett are consistently getting 40-80, Brook similar, Root doing Root - the team will consistently put scores on.

Doesn’t mean they can’t and shouldn’t do better but the conversion issues of years gone by were one bloke getting to 50 and not going on.

What a crap review. Shows how desperate they are that hitting the pad on day 3 constitutes going upstairs for a terrible one.

Also a fantastic effort by Duckett. Had a difficult start to test cricket when Ashwin had him on toast. But went back, scored runs and made himself unignorable. His play against spin has improved massively. Maybe Robinson could take note.

Historic moment ! The most prolific English batsman of all time is now Joseph Edward Root

We've witnessed history , who knows when we will see another batsman reach the summit of English batting , it might never happen again.

When I was a boy, I was introduced to Colin Cowdrey, who was England's No.1 run scorer at the time, and I think second only to Sobers in history. The world moves, he wouldn't make the top 40 run scorers now. Root is certainly the best of those who made it to No.1 since then (Boycott, Gooch, Cook) can't remember if Gower was there briefly but he'd be the only one to compare.
