@GIMH enjoy it while it lasts. We used you as open wicket practice in 2021 and once the boomers and chosen ones are removed I'm sure we'll be encouraging the true England to re-emerge, especially once your caregiver coach comes to his senses and moves back to a real country.
Also this has been the most dominant series performance by a tourist here in a very long time. Even Australia got OG bazballed on a first morning Hagley green top. Faultless series, barring Crawley.

Kane could do worse than indulge in a little Bazball. Athlais stats mask the truth somewhat - he's mostly dined out on helpless Pakistanis and West Indians. He's a far cry from the player he was 2013-2017 or so.

It was obvious pre series that NZ's only hope was to take England on with their own game (selections like Phillips required) even if they weren't good enough, but we all knew our selections & approach would remain boring, tentative & conservative.
The way Brook used his feet early-on to mitigate the swing when NZ had the better of early conditions vs. the way KW has been stuck on the crease this series says it all really.
Why would you need to play it against Jack Leach, on a benign pitch, when he basically bowls the same speed and rip every ball? As a left-hander? He's not turning it past your outside edge...use your effing feet if you want to break him up. Just crazy batting.
We don't have the cattle for Bazball. We can yearn for Phillips, but he's not a 10th of Harry Brook. Which NZ player would thrive under that approach?

Sooo Harry Brook and these others were unheralded pre bazball. Like, if you picked Ben Duckett to be a revelation then you're nostradamus.
I don't think we need to start yeeting, but a bit of KW 2015 looking to score every ball would be nice. He's turned himself into Pujara stylistically.

It's a very old-fashioned position. You see that sort of thing in footage from the early 1970s and earlier, when batsmen routinely spent their time blocking the spinners unless they sent down a rare bad ball. Nowadays it's borderline suicidal mid off. Pope's anticipation was brilliant.
More broadly, what right does Leach have to be taking three wickets on Day 2 on this pitch? The smart money would have been on his brief innings being the only action he'd see all test whilst the quicks cleaned up. But not a bit of it. Yet another example of a player's confidence improving exponentially under Stokes' leadership.
