But wouldn't you like to know why his technique has changed and why his shot selection has been so poor.
Let's go back to last season where he scored the ton at Napier and performed well in the Chappel-Hadlee's, he was new to the team and played his own game. Now lets look at today, he has been in and around the team for the last year, meaning he has been influenced by certain coaches such as Bracewell and his team of merry-men. I believe that if we let Taylor play his natural game we would not be seeing these arc towards mid-wicket and would be seeing better stroke play and technique.
Interesting theory.

It's going to be such a party when Bracewell is finally given the ouster.

I somehow doubt it.

Just been looking through an old NZ vs Pakistan thread, whatever happened to Tim McIntosh? Ian Butler actualy bowled well in an innings as well, Cairns out of form and Oram and Vettori making their first test tons not to mention a magical 192 by Fleming who 8 days previously couldn't pul or drive due to injury.

You can go back on topic now:p

Quick word on the final ODI, didn't manage to see any of it and then SkySport don't seem to have a highlights package!! Really convenient....almost rivals the decision to put ODIs starting at 2pm on SS2 to accommodate a Super 14 match at 7.30pm....

McCullum seemed to go balistic again and one day I'm sure he'll crack 100...at the rate hes going a few 150-200 scores aren't unrealistic. Shame that Flynn registered a duck on debut though I'm sure he'll have more opportunties in the future. Oram also disappointing with the bat again though from the news highlights seemed to receive a pretty decent delivery. Not sure what happened to Ryder, 50 from 5 overs?

Speaking of Ryder....what was he thinking?? Yes its all very well to have a few drinks after the match but after gaining the nation's trust that he'd matured hes gone and blown that well and truely.

With Ryder gone from the test matches I'm interested to see the make up of New Zealand's side for the tests....Cumming and Bell will more than likely continue their opening partnership with Fleming at three (I'm presuming Fulton is not exactly a certainty).

Taylor and Sinclair would seem the most likely middle order but thats a little shaky to say the least. Oram and McCullum at six and seven, Vettori at eight, Mills at nine and Patel/o no O'Brien at ten with Martin at 11 seem to pick themselves. Wouldn't surprise me if that 12 was named and Patel was left as twelfth man (surely he must be approaching some sort of record?) Hope Patel gets a run though.

England should still be reasonable confident heading into the tests IMO. Vaughan will add a touch of class to the side and give them some fresh ideas. Presume Mustard will retain the wicket keeping spot.

Whilst I agree it was slightly biased did you really need to be so condascending? That sort of reply should only be reserved for trolls which Sportychic is not.
You can blame Bracewell for a number of things, mainly being a douchebag and picking the wrong players. But you can't blame everything on him, and it annoys me when people resort to "Bloody Bracewell" everytime something bad happens to or within the Black Caps. As noted by more than one poster when Taylor first emerged, he had a strong preference for 'slogging', and it was only going to become more prominent.

Did you ever watch Ross Taylor before he played for New Zealand? Certainly the player I watched back in 2005 didn't have such a major preference for the mid-wicket region.

Graham "Gary" Barlow hasn't taught him that, so where has he picked it up? Surely he hasn't been watching my batting technique for tips, has he?

Have you been watching him lately? Swinging his bat in an arc towards mid-wicket does not equal class. In recent times Taylor has been severely limited with his stroke play and temperament.
Have you?

No, but putting in good First Class performances is usually a reasonable indication of whether one will be a success at Test level or not.
You could say the same thing about ODIs.
ODI => Different form but same level
FC => Same form but different level

A few. Is that relevant though? How many batsman who have poor First Class averages have gone on to be good Test batsman? Not a great deal.
In NZ's case, quite alot not a few. Papps for instance.
NZ's First Class scene isn't the toughest in the world hence averaging alot in FC doesn't count for that much.
Poor FC avg gone on to be good? Shane Bond wasn't exactly setting the FC scene alight before he entered the big time with a bang.

His performances in ODI cricket lately have generally been poor. If you want to see him play, and most likely fail, then fair enough. I for one would rather have somebody else fill the middle order.
So now you chose to do the old ODI=Test thing?

Just reported on Radio Sport that Ryder smashed a toilet window with his fist and therefore damaged his hand so is out of cricket for 6 weeks.
Y'know, when I first read this, I wondered if it was a joke. Then I thought... Ryder, nope, could easily be serious. Then came Ben's post
Correction, he won't be doing any physical activity for 6 weeks. He's not expected to get back to playing cricket for 3 months.
and all was certified.

Echo those great many people saying "what a pratt". Let's hope he can come back from this latest setback the way he has his previous 21.

Love the way CricInfo put it too: "a window-breaking incident"!

Yes, you could, but you'd be wrong, to an extent. Being a good ODI player means little in regards to Test prospects. Being a good FC player helps massively.

Haha, scoring runs domestically in New Zealand is pretty difficult. Why else do you think we've got so few batsmen averaging over 40? And bowlers like Ian O'Brien averaging 22 or something. Personally I think Michael Papps still has the potential to be a decent Test opener, but that is another argument.

So now you chose to do the old ODI=Test thing?
No, but since he hasn't played a State Championship match in a while, his ODI exploits recently are the only indication of form at the moment.

If you seriously think that Bracewell has told Ross Taylor to slog virtually every ball he faces, then you're more biased than I thought.

After making such an impression in the NZ ODI side and expecting to make the Test side, Ryder then produces another smash of inspiration! The guy is an absolute idiot, I'm sure he's not the first and won't be the last to drink excessively and act stupidly, but to put his health and fitness at risk when his country needs him to be pushing for Test selection shows how irresponsible he can be.

Get in a pedalo Jesse away from anything that can break!!
