**Official** England in New Zealand

I think your dreaming if you believe that Franklin is gonna be fit in time. He still hasn't played a game for Wellington as a batsman alone, indicating he's a long way off.
I was under the impression Franklin was back for England?

If he isn't then Martin in.

Disappointed that Taylor and McCullum couldn't make the most of perfect conditions, especially after Southee showed exactly how the Panesar Pie Factory should be treated. Great stuff from him at the end, though I think people saying that he's the next Cairns are going OTT. Actually, his stroke play did remind me of a Cairns...but it was much more Lance than Christopher in style.
Yeah my thoughts exactly on Southees batting. He is no number six like Chris Cairns. He'll be handy in the Lance Cairns role though.

OK maybe not greentops (though there may be a few) but England should be alot of fun for the bowlers.
Wasn't the case in the recent WI or India series, iirc, though the latter had a bit of swing apparent for the bowlers. But flat pitches all the way through, unless I'm much mistaken and I wouldn't be surprised to see the same here.

Yeah? All the bowling I saw was pretty good stuff in decent conditions..

Damn, was hoping to let our lot loose on a greentop. See if either side could get to 150.

No offence to Tim here but the talkback tonight has been predictable and at times, hilarious. Points raised are:

-No depth (this happens after every loss)
-No openers (fair point)

But some of the selections my God, James Marshall and "maybe that Hay joker." I vote that woman is shot. Some prick rang in and gloated he was right we'd lose the two remaining games, he sounded like Christmas had come early. Kent Johns has been excellent in managing such awful callers I must say.
Fair point if the likes of Elliott are getting a gig.

The way I see it nowadays, it is our weather that generally dictates the difficulty of batting more than the pitches but certain pitches still offer a bit to everyone especially places like Old Trafford and Headingley. Usually. Watch them score 2000 runs in boths Tests and you to quote this both times. :p

I see there's already a lot of discussion about the New Zealand in England series in this thread.

As the tours are pretty close together, do you all just want this thread title renamed and use this thread for that series too or would everyone prefer a new thread?

New thread for me.

Richard's post count has been nothing short of ridiculous in this thread.

Nah, you need a new one, especially if you want to go back and find something from this series, it could be very confusing.

New one will be convenient. Why we need to change the rules...? Its better for us to review later if we have two different threads

Considering his display in the first innings he isn't an all rounder. So my guess is that he went out with no pressure on his shoulders and decided to have a slog. He got lucky, thats all.
He is being groomed as a bowling all-rounder. So he does have batting skills.
He didn't really get lucky, but he did have little pressure on him.

Look for Southee to slowly move up the order as he gets older. He is very similar to Daniel Vettori, but a little more orthodox in the batting department.
