Anderson has bowled at an economy rate of 4.00 or more seventeen times in a 41-innings career: 41.5% of the time

Contrast that to Hoggard - 29 in 122 (23.8%)
Sidebottom - 1 in 22 (4.5%) and that was 12-1-48-3
Harmison 25 in 105 (23.8%)
McGrath - 11 in 243 (4.5%)

Anderson looks like an Agarkar - lot of potential and talent which is more than likely goin to be unfulfilled. Both had blazing starts to ODI cricket before fading to mediocrity.

Not a bad comparison, but Jimmy is better looking and I doubt he'll get a Test Match ton.

England really on the back foot here, need to try and force a passage of play where we gain some control, if the wickets are not coming at least try and slow this run rate down! For this Panesar has now got to bowl a number of overs this afternoon, Anderson has firmly been put in his place from Fleming, while Broad is finding conditions a little tougher than Wellington and is too short (not height-wise). Sidebottom is typically consistent and hopefully England will go with him and Monty after lunch in an attempt to ensure NZ have not passed our total by tea!
Such a shame to see Fleming retiring when he is so graceful in this nick. How battled it out early and is now reaping the rewards of dogged determination and patience against a new ball.

I can't think of an excuse for that at all, Sinclair. It was just dire.

Barring second innings heroics, I'd say that'd be it for his career, sadly, even with Fleming retiring. If he got out early to a good ball, it'd be excusable, but hanging around for half an hour and then playing that shot under pressure to get out on 7 just really isn't good enough. He should be proud of the achievements he made early in his career and his career should be put into the context of the dire selection policies that plagued it, but the second half of his career will forever remain one of the strangest things of his cricketing generation, IMO.
