Collingwood looking all at sea against Vettori, while Pietersen's playing him comfortably

Fantastic start by the Kiwis :)

What sort of speed is Southee getting out of interest? In kph please :p

Again no coverage on Fox Sports in Australia :(

83-84mph, so that's... what, 132-134kph?

Pietersen looking to play the sweep a lot to Vettori, a shot he plays well, though Vettori remains one of the more difficult spinners to sweep.

Southee's been hitting 137 a couple of times, handy pace.

Amazing session. 58 runs, and Pietersen's got 43 of them!

Well that's Lunch, 58-4 from 30. Something of a pleasant surprise to get a full 30 overs in a session, but that's about the only pleasant thing from our POV.

At least Pietersen's still there, while he's still there there's a smidgen of hope. And he has 43 out of 58. Thanks dear namesake.

Thank goodness that sessions come to an end! KP looking very comfortable, Colly probably just looking to play a supporting role. A heck of a lot of work for these two to do with only Ambrose, as a batsman of any note, to come.

A painful morning session that prompted me to open a bottle of red wine.....I don't even like wine.... but nothing else in!!

Drowned my sorrows with the Kick (Tesco take on RedBull) myself TBH, so you'll probably have to put-up with me for at least another session.

Not Terrible
Patels in the team and Southee did better than my little Kiwi heart dared to dream, looks like a good day.

Interesting discussion going on with John Morris now...
John Morris? Y'mean Giles Clarke?

Showing what a detestable type he is IMO, TBH. Never liked him at all. Always worrying when English cricket is in the hands of him. When you compare him to Ian MacLaurin!

Well there's Hugh Morris who's the England Team Director or some such fiddle-faddle, but I sincerely hope John Morris is never involved in the ECB. :p This is the man, remember, who accompanied David Gower in the notorious Tiger Moth flight in 1990\91.

Just one of those random moments then...

Pietersen scored 74.137931034482758620689655172414% of the runs in the opening session.
Impressive stuff. I'm not sure what the test record for a completed innings is but I recall Glenn Turner getting something like 143 out of 169 in a county game in England
