Worth staying up to see the nightwatchman score a 50?
Worth staying up because I only got out of bed at 1pm and have bought food especially to keep myself going through the night. Also, I don't get to watch any of our home Tests live because I'm busy working/playing/coaching so I have to make the most of this...

I like watching Compton bat. It may just be because he's 'new' though; I always quite enjoy watching good players I haven't seen much of and getting used to how they bat, unless they're really obviously ungainly. Compton has just played a lot of slow, defensive innings this far, because it's been justified more than not. It'll be interesting to see if he picks up the pace in other circumstances; I think he'd be quite good to watch if he was looking to get on top, personally.
Got to say, coming from the Land of the Short Opening Partnership, I loved watching Richardson bat. No matter how slow, how ugly, or how much he blocked. Remember him getting this 50 and literally thinking "I don't care how long he takes" (50 came up off 179 balls FYI).

2nd Test: New Zealand v Pakistan at Wellington, Dec 26-30, 2003 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

This test by the way is one of the reasons Shoaib Akhtar averages 5.23 against us in tests. Bowling.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Interesting Boult Stat: Averages 43 with the ball at home, 28 away.

This is only his 3rd Test in NZ.

Is it sour grapes to despise this pitch?

I mean us having a 150 opening partnership demonstrates everything you need to know about the likelihood of a result.

Watch out Siddle!
Ha yeah. Tip for all pedestrian medium pacers, grunt and run your mouth as much as possible and you'll come off looking better then what you are.

Woodster

International Captain
Finn seemingly being allowed to leave far too many deliveries, need to tighten the line to him especially.

I think it puts a lot of things into context, batting wise.

Does the ball usually swing for longer in domestix?

I think the domestic pitches earlier in the season were much fairer.

This has been one of our best ever summers though so the pitches probably can't be helped. It's just too hot and dry. Just look at the Ford Trophy scores to see how flat the late season pitches are.

In saying that I think even with the hot summer result pitches should still be possible.
