***Official*** England in New Zealand series 2013

Good stuff from Wagner. Don't worry about the 100, just win the game.

Wagner, Bracewell, Boult and Southee is a dangerous tail, could easily pile the runs on in no time or all be gone in minutes.
Wagner can stick around. The other three are a bit hit and miss.

And you reckon he's going to be any less injury prone after a year or so, yeah? :p
Course he will, like a perenially fit version of Chris Cairns .

Excellent innings from Wagner by the looks of things. It's a real achievement to beat this England team, even if they don't have a few of their best players.

Decent performances from the guys in the test squad.

Yeah awesome win. Hope it's not ODI/T20s all over again. Should give them a hard time now that Rossco's in.

Wouldn't get too ahead of yourselves. The small matter of Anderson and Finn to come back in and I think it was pretty obvious from Cook that the seamers were over-bowled. Was very much used as a warm up game otherwise Swann would have taken a lot more overs, from Onions in particular, and we know how well you guys have played spin recently...

Yup, it's good that Watling and Brownlie got a bit of decent match practice, but otherwise I wouldn't be taking too much out of this. Still predicting 3-0 to England (weather permitting).

Phew, glad to hear we're not going to do overdo the positivity here

FFS, a couple of NZ test players plus a collection of up-and-comers and domestic also-rans did just beat an England side that on paper is only a couple of players shy of full strength!

Yes, it was a warmup. No, the intensity wouldn't have been the same as an international match. But you can be damn sure England defending 333 today would have been doing anything they could to avoid losing. Any international cricketer would HATE losing a match to a lesser side like this.

The NZ XI did well to even compete for the first three days and then to actually steal the win against a better side is a proper achievement.

Edit: It doesn't need to be seen in the context of the test series - yes we are still likely to be comprehensively beaten 3-0 there.

Clearly Gambhring
I would still say England are favorites, but 3-0 is highly improbably. 2-1 or 2-0 seems more likely.

Or the NZ XI just played better than this particular England team.

Apparently the first time in 7 years England have lost a first-class tour match.

Nice work NZ XI !

who's getting ahead of themselves?

it wasn't our strongest team either, obviously.

Moreover, the declaration from Latham was pretty generous IMO.

Great win. :) Terrific batting by Watling after a poor ODI series. The injury to Ronchi turned out to be a blessing in disguise in that respect. Good warm up for Brownlie & Rutherford. Also, nice to see guys on the fringe like Broom, & youngsters Latham, Anderson & Neesham making vital contributions. A real shame Anderson is so injury prone as he would be a dangerous guy to have coming in at no8. Latham appears to be another future captaincy prospect along with Williamson. Listening to him being interviewed after the game he reminded me a bit of Fleming.

Finn & Anderson will make a huge difference for the tests and the pitch may be more lively. So that will be a different ball game.

This victory can be savoured though - many people were hoping this side wouldn't get thrashed.

Hands up anyone that still thinks BJ should open the batting...

Yeah, good to see the squad players get a good work out. Hopefully their confidence will be up for the Test series.

Really surprised about this result!! , well done the kiwis though, at first i thought Pieterson and Trott wasn't playing until i looked at the scorecard and saw the line-up!! , Watling had always had these sort of innigs in him, when NZ toured the Carribean last year he was a right pain in the backside during the ODI's, if he can take that form into the longer version of the game then he'll be very handy for NZ.

England will be stung by this though and i'd expect a big response in the first test so NZ are gonna have to be prepard for that.
