Beer in the Church now in my Shrewsbury shirt.

Saw 3 other Salopians today. Never saw the other 2 I know are here.

So we all wait and see what the weather does tomorrow to the ball...

P.S. New Zealand is an amazing country and Christchurch is a great place to be.
Where have you been going for the beer? There are a few pretty decent spots down there these days. For what it's worth, Craft Embassy and Two Thumb are probably my two favourites (the latter is unfortunately a fair walk from the city centre).

As for who is ahead, pretty hard to say... I'd probably say I'd rather be England, not sure this pitch will fall apart at all. We're not getting much more than 350 with a new ball unless Tim does rare Tim things and GP goes nuts, and I'm sure they'll back themselves to get a 100-odd run lead from there.

However, I don't really mind our position, either, if we manage to kick on a bit tomorrow. O'Rourke will be dangerous and Henry loves Hagley, too. Very absorbing first day

Just flicked through the wickets on TNT, looked to me like the vast majority (if not all) were gifted really. From what I saw in the first session, the pitch had a little bit of life in (standard for first hour) but looked pretty good for batting. So are NZ significantly under par? Did England bowl poorly but got lucky? Didn't really look like there was anything in it for the spinner either, but how did he pick up 4?

Not a fan of Pomeroys?

England's batting line up is vulnerable, Crawley and Duckett are hit and miss, Bethell on debut at no.3 and Brook, Pope and Stokes aren't in great form.,
Crawley and Duckett have become almost the most reliable opening pair in Test Cricket currently. It maybe unorthodox, but they get runs. The last time Brook played on a flattish deck (just over a month ago) he got a triple ton. The pitches he got out on in Pakistan were totally unlike this. Also worth pointing out a very strong tail, Carse is a number 8 coming in at 10.

Having said that, this England team are as likely to score 200 as they are 600. But on this pitch, they could well go big.

We were in the Fiddler place last night. In Church tonight

Well we didn't bowl well at all. So I'm happy New Zealand made it a better day than it should have been for us!

Bashir didn't bowl a 4fer day, but Leach wouldn't have taken wicket on that so a good call on selection!

How far behind are they?

Watching some of the coverage today it looked like they were barely interested. Stokes seemed like he was just phoning it in.

Eyes on the Ashes already?
We've been doing this for a good 4 years.

Us bowling 90 in a day even with an extra half an hour is a collectors item. Yet 96 get bowled in county cricket every day!

Bashir improved dramatically as the day went on. Started bowling pies and bowled well later on. He stuck at it. Maybe the wind hindered him early?

Williamson was always going to comeback that doesn't mean Young should have been out the XI , when someone gets POS you find a place for him would played him and asked Latham to take the gloves in Blundell position , Young to open

Young has been tried as an opener. He averages 22. He's a number 4. Maybe a number 3 if you're pushing it. He's not an opener. Swapping Latham with Young and Blundell with Latham just means you've got a worse opener and worse keeper.

I thought England bowled well in the final session. With discipline and had some plans. Nz also contributed to their own downfalls.

I thought England bowled terribly in the second session, nz rattled along, but gifted 2 wickets which looked like it had potential to hurt them later on, if Kane got out.

I didn't see first session

They just don't give a **** about over rates. Mind you, they did bowl an extra 2 overs in no balls and it seemed like there was an issue at one end with the front foot. I don't recall Atkinson having no ball issues previously.

Genuinely confused at the minute. I often dream about what’s happening in a game that’s going on in the night. Wake up and then reset my mind realising that no we haven’t bowled them out for 12. But I woke up recalling Bashir taking 4 then find he did. I have to think I must have actually looked at cricinfo in my sleep but I honestly don’t think I did. I’m psychic y’all!!

Shows how low my expectations on over rates are because when I saw 83 had been bowled, I thought ‘good going!’ Especially after how poor the rate was this morning
