**Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I'm not so sure Young has changed his spots. He has been scoring awesome 50s on minefields since he was young. His issue is throwing away starts on motorways.

I suspect he would have scored the same if the Indian decks were flat.

Hopefully he has changed, but it's still a risk.
I get where you're coming from but those "awesome 50s" in the third test really undersell the innings.

If Kane had scored those innings on the same pitch, we'd be using them as proof ad naseum why he's best of the fab 4 for decades to come.

NZ clear favourite now for this. Come on the underdogs
Guess that might be true, although a bit of a question mark over our seam attack/make-up of our bowling line-up. Henry is world class, O'Rourke will pose massive problems, but Southee is likely to play as 3rd seamer (the right conditions might make that work) and then it's who we pick as fourth, or if we pick a fourth. Duffy? Smith? Santner at 8?

I'd tend to agree with this. Young was brilliant in India but we've never doubted his ability to get to between 50 and 90, on any surface.

This is the warm-up game.. only 2 days, probably 15 x 15, one day batting v one day bowling
22-23 Nov - New Zealand Cricket XI v England XI, Sir John Davies Oval, Queenstown (22:00 GMT)

Any idea when the squad leave for NZ?

There's a round of Plunket Shield from 19-22 Nov, so I guess the NZ XI will be full of provincial A players and promising young players. Hopefully Queenstown youngsters Hugo Tendulkar Bogue and Toby Hart get to play against the Poms on their home track.

Will Young has been named in the squads that will tour Sri Lanka so there is no way he will play 1st test vs England

Young, Chapman, Phillips, M Bracewell, Santner and Duffy are the players from Indian test tour who are going to Sri Lanka.

Phillips will play 1st test vs England.

Young probably spare batter in test squad. Perhaps two of Santner / Smith / Duffy will be in test squad, one of them playing as 4th bowler.

Given the way test cricket has gone this year, I wouldn't be surprised if England manage to win this series 3-0

Metservice predicting a long, hot summer at least

Say what you want about Bazball but it is nice going into a 3-match series thinking we're a red hot chance of seeing 3 results, if the weather plays ball (and even if it doesn't for periods of time).

I wish Sears was available, I'd really think we were in great shape if he was. As it stands, we'll probably get Henry and Southee taking the new ball, and Duffy/Smith shoehorned into trying to find something on debut with an older ball - just as Henry was when he averaged 50 in his first 17 innings with limited opportunities with the new ball.

I dunno, that third innings seems a bit Bazball-ish at over 3s an over and attempting to win the game with an overnight 4th day declaration. I think he would have loved the chase though, chasing 329 (how's my maths) and not got anywhere near it, only six down.
