**Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

Williamson obviously wasn't a soccer player as a kid, he could have kicked that away with some better footskills, hard to be great at two sports though.

State Captain
If I see any more of these "Southee is a lazy bum and always has been" posts I'm gonna start rooting for him again. Ffs, I know we're all frustrated and he should've been dropped after last year's Australia series, but that doesn't change the fact that he's been one of our greatest ever.
His stats over 75ish tests where he was good are very good. 325 wickets at 26.9.

But early on he was inconsistent (they used to do this amazing thing called “drop him”), and obviously the last 10 tests or so have been tough.

But that’s a large sample size in the middle.

I will say that Pope's keeping has looked surprisingly decent this series. It's something that he probably could have made a fist of doing as a specialist if he focused more on it earlier in his career, but his I think his spin struggles would have made him unsuited to batting 6 or 7 in too many conditions (although Blundell has still played 40 Tests I guess).

Exquisite placement from Blundell to get off the mark with a four through the slips, can't even call that a drop as Root didn't get a hand to it.

Curious. When Latham is the captain our batsmen are finding soft ways to get out after getting starts.

Mitchell throwing away his wicket after getting another start, the story of this series, only Blundell has gone on to get a ton and that didn't matter much.

Any advantage we have had is just about gone now unless Blundell and Phillips can put together a good partnership.

Also another curious observation.

England revert to their cheating over rate and wickets start to fall.

Gross.

I do wonder sometimes if Phillips batting 7 behind a keeper averaging low 30s has made him less hungry for building an innings and making big scores, and he does get left with the tail too often as a result, but there's no excuse for that sort of dismissal at 5 down on Day 1.
