I think a lot of Asitha. He looks to have some skill-set on him. I know he hasn't played that many tests yet, but he's produced the goods in nearly every game that I've watched over the last several months.Test series is gone , WTC final is gone so makes sense to give Southee a final Test he's been quality! Wish we had a right arm seamer that had half the career Southee has had.
He didn't have a great Ashes (for some reason, he never really did), but he was then the best seamer in India on unforgiving pitches. Unlike Southee, who is clearly no longer in the top 3 seamers for his country, Anderson was very much still in that discussion even at the age of 41. He had given no hints of when he wanted to retire, so the Management made that decision for him. One match at the start of a 'friendly' Summer and then see you later. It's worked out well.I haven't followed the Anderson situation that closely but he got a farewell test at Lord's? Took 5 wickets at 85.40 in the Ashes last year. Was 41 years of age and could have easily have been discarded at that point.
Some might argue that at 2-0 up, England really stick the nail in by picking a stronger side......Looks far and away NZ's best chance of picking up a Test this series.
I dont want to see it, but it does honestly make me wonder that if this team selection happens that boos may ring out around the crowd when Southee bowls.I honestly think fans of NZ cricket should boycott this test. It’s clear from Latham’s comments that the fans are being treated like idiots. **** this regime.
That would be a really sad way for a player to retire on. I don't think NZ fans are that cold.I dont want to see it, but it does honestly make me wonder that if this team selection happens that boos may ring out around the crowd when Southee bowls.
Nah, that won't happen. Nor should it. If Scott K isn't getting booed, no one is.I dont want to see it, but it does honestly make me wonder that if this team selection happens that boos may ring out around the crowd when Southee bowls.
Very good point, and 100% it shouldn't happen.Nah, that won't happen. Nor should it. If Scott K isn't getting booed, no one is.
Asitha Fernando in 7 or 8 years??Test series is gone , WTC final is gone so makes sense to give Southee a final Test he's been quality! Wish we had a right arm seamer that had half the career Southee has had.
I booed the SP. At least a few times. Still, Southee might get the silent treatment like at the Basin.Nah, that won't happen. Nor should it. If Scott K isn't getting booed, no one is.
With Atkinson and Carse, Woakes’ batting ability (which has been waning in recent years) isn’t anywhere near as important, and Potts is certainly no mug with bat in hand. If anything, I’m surprised Carse was still picked considering he had a niggle after the last TestI think a lot of Asitha. He looks to have some skill-set on him. Re this series, perhaps it will be after the Lord Mayor's show for England. I'm happy that Potts is playing instead of Woakes, although the latter has done better than we might have anticipated given his utterly woeful record leaving English shores.
There was a case of playing Stone, I thought instead of one of those two if they were looking slightly dodgy. That said, the extra couple of days rest that they've had as a result of winning on day 3 must have given them a bit more time to get fit. I agree re the batting factor, it is less of a consideration given that Carse and Atkinson both have tons in the red ball repertoire. It is only really Bashir who is a proper tailender out of that lot. With Atkinson and Carse, Woakes’ batting ability (which has been waning in recent years) isn’t anywhere near as important, and Potts is certainly no mug with bat in hand. Very good point about that. SInce his marvellous ton at Lords he has 51 visits to the crease, 3 50s and an average of 22. When you think about how his batting was spoken about when he broke, through I thought he might have developed more as his career has matured. I never get the feeling he knows what his role is, but sometimes think he feels he needs to be like a 'proper' batsmen when many of hist best Warks innings were aggressive counter-attacking affairs. With Atkinson and Carse, Woakes’ batting ability (which has been waning in recent years) isn’t anywhere near as important, and Potts is certainly no mug with bat in hand. If I see any more of these "Southee is a lazy bum and always has been" posts I'm gonna start rooting for him again. Ffs, I know we're all frustrated and he should've been dropped after last year's Australia series, but that doesn't change the fact that he's been one of our greatest ever.lol yup...700 test friggin wickets n all
and good ol timmy with the enthusiasm level of sloth over a 16 year career, time to dance
Nathan Smith signs for Surrey - Kia Oval Well, it looks as though he's going to play for Surrey instead. I'm actually surprised that Surrey didn't go for O'Rourke given he was born in Kingston (Surrey/South West London and not Jamaica!)If NZ don't want Smith I'd like to think we could engage in some industrial-scale chicanery to get him qualified for England . What a player, skilled and seems like he'd die for the shirt. Even his mullett-tache combo is back in fashion over here (although it is unclear if Smith himself is ahead, or several decades behind, the curve on this one).
His Test stats are a classic case of small sample size bias, but Joe Root will be happy if he doesn't play.
Just reading Southee is the sport's only bowler to take the combination of more than 300 wickets in Tests, 200 in one-day internationals and 100 in Twenty20 internationals. I can't really recall him missing any games with injury either. His fitness and durability has been remarkable. If I see any more of these "Southee is a lazy bum and always has been" posts I'm gonna start rooting for him again. Good stat - looks like Boult was nearest to doing likewise, but got stuck at 83 T20 wickets. Starc currently has 65 T20 wickets, but can't really see him getting another 35 to join the club. Shakib is 54 Test wickets shy of the club.Just reading Southee is the sport's only bowler to take the combination of more than 300 wickets in Tests, 200 in one-day internationals and 100 in Twenty20 internationals. Skippers hail New Zealand 'great' Southee before final Test
Tim Southee was hailed a New Zealand cricketing "great" by opposing captains on Friday as the seamer prepared to take on England in the last Test of a 16-year career. While Southee's form has dipped over the last two years, England captain Ben Stokes said the versatile New Zealander remained a...uk.sports.yahoo.com
