Theres another A series in January I think, but will coincide with blackcaps white ball stuff, so possible one of either Seiffert or Phillipa might miss that. If Phillips, then he's definitely taken his chance.

Big fan of Kuggelejin. Really do hope that despite the mediocre start to his t20 career (bowling, primarily), he gets a long persisted run. I believe that when CDG goes, Kuggs should slot into his spot. T20 is a good introductory point n all but looking at his FC and List A record, he definitely seems a longer format player. Seems a better fit for the ODI's and tests. Really don't want him going down the Colin Munro road where he only got to play one test despite a tremendous FC record.

CDG is 33, his time will be up shortly.

kugglejuggle has a lot of improvement to make in his consistency if he's going to play tests. he's not the batsman cdg is (he's a #8 at highest) and one day he's bowling heat on an awkward length and the next long hops at a breezy 138kph.

Sorry, but he is a number 8 at best. edit: as flem suggested

If he walked out to bat at 6 or higher I would wonder where the coaching staff get their magic mushrooms and if that person is selling to the general public.

Would be lovely when Kuggs walks out at 4 instead of Taylor.

Guptill
Phillips +
Williamson*
Taylor
Munro
Neesham
CDG
Santner
Southee
Boult
Ferguson

That's my side. Sodhi, Mitchell, Seifert, and some pacer in the squad (maybe Bracewell).

i wouldnt be surprised if they go with 4 quicks tbh. it's november and kane hates using spinners in nz in march. he's always preferred cdg as the dry bowler in nz.

with that in mind i'd pick tastle of the two. santa can't bowl dry in tests anyway and tastles 5-10 overs per innings are infinitely more likely to find a wicket. he's arguably better with the bat too since that's what we seem to pick our spinners on now...

i would pick the traditional trio because i want to see what they're actually bowling on telly under a speed gun. all 3 deserve their spots but if anyone is bowling floaty trash, ferguson comes in for them.

what i think will happen is santner will play because kane doesn't trust leggies at all and we'll see a random wagner dropping for ferguson because we won't want to break up the boult/southee swing combo.

Fizzing for the test match... can't wait to watch how it pans out. Likely a draw in the first game followed by a win for Black Caps in the second is my prediction. Kane is back and he missed out in SL meaning he's due for a big one.

I'm guessing it's going to be Jeet Raval, Latham, Williamson, Taylor, Nicolls, Watling, CDG,Santner, Southee, Lockie and Boult will make the team.

I think Southee or Wagner miss the first, but I don't think I'd ever chalk Southee up as not playing in Hamilton. He averages 21 there FFS

Stuff saying Southee likely to miss out in the first test, with Ferguson opening the bowling. Then Southee possibly back for the second test where swing is likely to be more of a factor.

we've got 2 day nighters across the summer right? i wonder if wagner will miss both.

anything remotely roady looking and we'll play both wagner and ferguson probs.

Ok that would be more likely than my prediction then. Thought NZ would win the first and experiment for the second.

The England side looks like it will contain a number of players with limited international experience but already it looks to be a far more balanced side than any selected over the last 18 months or so. Very exciting to see a new era. As for the 3rd bowling spot, I think Curran does have the best shout but happy with either. Woakes needed a break and the reports are that he is working on other tricks where the ball and surface don't favour him. I'm looking forward to this series.

Yeah, the lack of argument over the likely top 7 may explain the lack of English presence on the thread lately; I suspect we're all pretty happy to see a top 6 without any one-day specialists playing as top 6 test batsmen. Plus the likelihood of Root and Pope batting in their best positions. I suppose the flip side is we're probably a bowler short, and two fourth quicks in Stokes and Curran or Woakes doesn't equate a genuine third quick. Big onus on Broad and Archer to use the new ball effectively.

England with a lot to prove in this series after some pretty abysmal Test returns of late. Should be a cracker of a series.
