This.ODI payback done. test payback to be delivered next year.
Agree, but in the end it can turn out a bit counter productive too, if the batsman get set against the part timers and then later on with more dew kicking in the bowl turns less.MS really knows how and when to use his bowlers. Already 9 overs gone bye from the part timers, they haven't gone for much and have taken two wickets as well. If we had used our regulars and somehow not taken any wickets, we'd be in a situation with two set batsmen at the crease in a bowling powerplay against part timers, not ideal at all.
I'm personally fine with him bringing on part timers after a breakthrough, you get cheap overs in and it leaves your better bowlers for difficult situations later on.
You know what the funny thing is, he's actually a decent candidate to play the second spinner role in test matches, and his batting is also somewhat suited to test matches. I don't know why we kept playing him in T20I's in those 2 world cups, that's whats done his reputation the most harm, he simply isn't a T20 player.Anyone reckon Jadeja might sneak into the Test squad for India's next home series?
Did a job though; you'd hope that in the position he bats he'd be in with either Dhoni or Raina, or failing that, a set batsman. He's capable of quietly scoring a run a ball and turning the strike over to the batsman best placed to hit the big shots. If only Jadeja can improve his power batting, he'd be the perfect ODI all rounder for us, especially in home conditions.
Realised just after I made that post that we did in fact have 5 bowlersThe whole point of Jadeja though is that you have five frontline bowlers and shouldn't need to use the part-timers much/at all unless something goes awry. He's not used Raina and Tiwary to get overs in; he's used them because the pitch has been turning and he rates them as better bowlers in these conditions than Vinay and Aaron.
Can't agree more. Should be changes coming soon. Just a shame we've been here twice in the year and failed on both occasions.Anyway, played India. As dire as England have been all series, we've been completely outplayed and schooled in how to play ODI cricket. I'm not going to make the excuses about players missing; there is a World Cup to build towards and there were places up for grabs if some of the youngsters stepped up and grabbed the opportunity with both hands. They've failed to do so.
Nice attempt.I would say its Swann's fault. With such a pitch, he should have done better.
That and Dhoni happens to be one of the best ODI players of all time....I would say its Swann's fault. With such a pitch, he should have done better.
