you are going to cop some stick for this one unfortunately..
Na, If he wants to give that title to Dhoni and Pathan fine, I just never saw Collingwood, Blackwell, Bell, Geraint Jones, Plunkett, Simon Jones, Steve Harmison, Ashley Giles as world class all-rounders.

Oh wait and there's Trescothick who kept wicket, bowled and occasionally bats - so he must be a super duper world class all-rounder.

Dhoni is placed third on ICC table as a batsman, i think it shows his class.
How is his wicketkeeping?
This is a genuine question, as I've only ever seen Dhoni bat in highlights and have never seen him 'keep wicket.

Not great, but is not all that bad.Good thing is that he's improving.

No, it's just wrong. :p

Pathan doesn't even have a Test hundred yet, and he's still averaging in the 40s with the ball against non-minnows.
Pssht... and Dhoni hasn't even taken a wicket yet. So over-rated...

In ODIs, I'd say Pathan and Dhoni are playing like world-class all-rounders at the moment. Pathan needs to take wickets more regularly in tests to get that claim in the longer format, and Dhoni has just started his test career. Potential is there, but that's too big of a claim right now.

As for those of you who act as if its blasphemy, you're overreacting as well, Dhoni and Pathan are certainly more promising as 'all-rounders' than every English player bar Flintoff, who is the best in the world and could become an all-time great.

Btw, I don't like including wicketkeepers in the all-rounder category.

What do English allrounders have to do with it being incorrect to call Dhoni and Pathan world class allrounders? I don't think anyone was promoting English allrounders over Indian allrounders.

Do we have any other allrounders? Obviously there's Rikki.... erm, Ian Bell?

Giles > Flintoff as an allrounder in International Cricket Captain 2005

most players tried to score as quickly as possible, other than of course collingwood and bell and not surprisingly both of those 2 have something to prove.
After Pakistan, how does Bell have anything to prove?

Well, I just felt that this:

was rather random and uncalled for. Dhoni and Pathan aren't world-class yet, but don't deny their potential with such statements. That's all.

Bell is the definition of an allrounder. Bat, bowl and field - in particular taking one handed catches off his own bowling. The fact that the ball hit the ground is irrelevant, he's still got the talent ;)

HAHA so true.. Flintoff is a medium pacer and spinners are freakishly good on that game.

Very true. In fact I think that he out of everyone has the least to prove. The one positive we took from that tour.

Say if Panesar played...

Would he be the first Sikh to bowl to another in a test match?

they might not be that successful with reverse, but simon Jones has already reported to fletcher that he managed to swing both the new and old SG ball. also mcgrath managed to reverse the ball in the 2004 series, i presume that they used the same balls then too.
Jones is pretty good at swinging the ball, he's wicket of Clarke with reverse swing in the ashes was one of the best I've ever seen. Lets hope for IND's sake he can't.:)

In fairness, they're not as freakishly good as past versions of ICC. Not from my experience at least. Flintoff is also a pretty outstanding batsman in it.

Flintoff has a habit of throwing away his wicket though, fairly realistic I guess. So does Geraint Jones.

In my recent Ashes campaign Flintoff was pretty horrid with the ball, as was Harmison. Simon Jones was decent, whilst Hoggard and Gilo were the stars. :p
