Like I said, when Bangladesh beat Australia - did their runs and wickets count then?
they have yet to prove that was anything but an incredible fluke.....they have been showing the teeniest of improvement in one dayers over their past 50 one dayers or so....let's wait and see how far that goes...as far as tests go, still completely pathetic, still waiting for a test win....zimbabwe just doesn't count.....

i am not arbitrarily eliminating anything but the answer is not so simple you know....there is a significant difference between being the worst team(s) in the world and being pathetically non-competitive and out of place.....
Only in degree - and then a judgement call gets made if you are playing by those rules.

Just how pathetically non-competitive and out of place were New Zealand for most of the 1960's, for instance?

What about those players who just happened to under-perform against the minnows? Does eliminating those Bangladesh and Zimbabwe stats might make them appear worse than they really are. ;)

England should really drop Jones in the next ODI. He's only scored at 16 in his last 15 innings. Maybe make Prior keep the wickets and bring in Alastair Cook instead.

India should drop R.P Singh for Munaf. He has good ODI record, but Munaf Patel clearly seems to be the better bowler off all the Indian pacers at the moment.

Agreed on Jones being dropped. Cook isn't in the one-day squad and I'm not sure if he'd even make a good limited-overs batsman. Prior will open regardless of whether he's keeping or not, but Solanki or Bell should come in and Shah should be behind both of them in the pecking order IMO.

You're not an England supporter, so stop claiming disappointment when they lose.
i have said some many times where i stand when it comes to me supporting australia and still showing interest in england, everyone hre knows but ONLY you being such a mature woman wouldn't just get of it. Is being a best part of your daily routine?, either way i ask just leave me alone (but knowing you i dont expect this to end here).

Zim and Bang data should also be left out of numbers when comparing modern players to those of the past (never a good idea but often done). As Z&B (quicker that way) are so much weaker, than any opponent the older guys would have faced, then to include them would make a serious 'like for like' comparision impossible.
While I agree with the rest of the post, I think this part is not right.

Almost all of the Test teams have started out as no-hope minnows before becoming properly competing Test nations. All opposing players who happened to play Tests when South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka started playing Tests have their averages inflated by playing minnows, if you follow the reasoning above.

Just thought I'd bring this up to show how our youngsters have emerged in one-day cricket.
In the 2005-2006 ODI season, against non-minnows (~ 20 matches):

Irfan Pathan is averaging 32 with the bat and 21 with the ball.
Yuvraj Singh is averaging 55 with the bat.
MS Dhoni is averaging 68 with the bat.

what a poor performance from Englands Batting apart from Pietersen and Flintoff but even they got out to stupidly. Harbarjan was lucky to get his 5 wickets i suppose his the best off spin bowler in the world now NOT

At Least Kabir Ali took 4 wickets he is a very gfood one day bowler and deserves to stay in the Rngland one day side

well played to ind for winning the 1st match defending 203 from a 117/3 after 19 overs. now watch it how ind win the series 7-0 and even shows aus how to defend 400+ scores once ind makes the 400+ scores in this series.

also, ind have found out a 146+ kph bowler in munaf patel and just wait for the time when he plays in aus/sa and clocks over 155+ kph as bowlers, tend to add 5-10 kph when in aus/sa. even in windies, munaf will bowl at > 150+ kph.

How does that work out if they measure it from the hand?

It doesn't work out in any way, at all. Bowlers don't go from being able to clock 90mph at a stretch (as I believe Patel does at the moment) to being able to clock 96mph overnight. There's a whole nother gear that Munaf needs to find before he's in the Lee/Shoaib/Harmison league. Right now he's in the Ntini/Nel/Flintoff league.

Bowlers tend to 'add' 5-10kph in SA because the speedometers are knackered.
so u mean to say that when an indian bowls fast, there is "some problem with the speedometer" and when an aussie bowls fast, its bcoz they bowl fast and also suddenly all speedometers become alright:wacko:
