Lol.. he said as much in that very interview. Think you are just reading the headlines here, vcs. And FWIW, I think he is right. Such breaks do help and will help India when we tour there too, which is what he said. You already see that Australia never come to play a full tour here. They always come one year for ODIs and the next one for tests. Think we have started doing that too now, and I think we should do the same with England, coz their season is not long enough to afford a month long break in between anyways.

Is Pandey even a good selection? Hasn't been in the news for any top scores and at least in the last season he was way down Karnataka's list of run scorers let alone in the country.

Pandey has missed a lot of Ranji cricket touring with the squad tho, hasn't he?
And he had a good couple of A Team tours, even captained the side IIRC, and has performed well in ODIs, which are his weaker format.
Not a bad pick for a middle-order replacement IMO. But if we need a reserve opener then it has to be Dhawan.

That is why I mentioned the 2015 numbers too.. Can't really use ODI numbers for test places. In the A series tour to Australia he had scores of 77(76), 11(12), 0(1) and 8(9)
I guess England will go - Cook, Jennings, Root, Ali, Bairstow, Stokes, Buttler, Rashid, Woakes...
Not sure who will be the other two if Broad isn't fit, he'll be one but he's 50/50.
No point in playing Duckett or Ballance, as I don't think either stiffen up the batting line up.
Batty, Ball and Finn I guess are the other (bleak) options.
