Quote of the day

Nafees Iqbal : "England's pace bowlers were quite good, but the spinners were very ordinary".

He followed that up by saying he thought Bangladesh would win the series.
The duck's more-or-less predicted the same thing

<quack> no I haven't

Yes you have. Your 'spooky' bit where you talk about a Bangladesh win being 'just around the corner'

<quack> I implied no such thing.

Look. It's like if I say 'there's a bottle of whisky just around the corner'. It implies that in a little while I will be tucking into the lovely, warm, pungent liquid

<quack> Rubbish

Why do you say that?

<quack> I drank it while you and Mrs Luckyeddie were out bowling

You gather correctly.

Nafees got a bit carried away while talking the English media. But otherwise he's a great lad and has the potential to crack the big league. His close friend (!) from Chittagong Aftab has made it to the national team before him so that would gee him up even more.

But the kid has a point. The spinners look very ordinary indeed, especially Giles. When did he last turn the ball?

He isnt that bad, but the fact that he and Batty are the leading spinners in England just shows what a dire position spin bowling is in England...

And to think Richard Dawson was playing a year ago, thats even worse...

Giles isn't bad, but Croft is better.
Dawson, though...
Well, one of the worst selections I have ever seen.

Well what Iqbal has suggested about the English spinners is true, its through respect that other nations haven't said the same thing :P

He did back himself up though by scoring a hundred, if he had failed people might have told him where to jump alot quicker.

How annoying when you get up at that ungodly hour of the morning and its raining.Anyway i know its been said plenty of times before on here but it can be said again what on earth is ricky clarke doing playing. Typical London bias(or should that be Surrey bias), Collingwood is by far the better option or even another bowler in this game(against Bangladesh im sure Reid could bat at 6.)2 seamers seems plain daft, to accomodate 2 very average spinners. If we had Warne and Macgill to get in the side or spinners of quality i could understand the policy but lets be honest neither Giles or Batty are really, well any good at all.

Yeah i got up real early in the 99 wc only to find it raining.:!( :(

Hate it when that happens:!(

It'll be interesting to see if Collingwood can do a Scott Styris and turn himself into a good test batsman.

He won't if they keep picking less talented players ahead of him, because he wont get a chance to.

Not much to report on today.

15 overs, England firmly in command (although Sarkar looks pretty reasonable).

Crazy situation again - floodlights on but still the light was adjudged too poor for test cricket (yet conversely would be ok for a ODI). Time for the ICC to step in and set standards for lights, methinks.

Anyway, here's the match report for you guys who set your short cut for CW straight to the forums...

A cloudburst today flooded much of the outfield and rendered the ground unsuitable for play after just 20 minutes. Following a lengthy delay, Bangladesh lost 2 wickets in making just 24 runs.

Read your report Eddie......

I take it you watched it? How was Harmison looking? Was he looking dangerous?

Looking for him to take on more responsibility now!!

Watched it, went to bed again, got up a couple of hours later, went to bed again, got up, went to the shop, had breakfast, watched England v South Africa re-run, went for a walk, fed the budgie and watched it again.

First session, Harmison and Hoggard were both ok. Second session, Harmy was a little wayward for an over or so then bowled superbly - moved the ball in the air and off the pitch at pace, got a bit of lift from a pitch which looked really dead.

Seems to me over the last couple of matches he has picked up the baton and run with it.
