**Official** England in Bangladesh 2016

The real answer is probably that a wet ball becomes softer ad fast bowlers don't like it. Probably damages the seam too..
On top of that if your hands are not dry you end up making the rough side of the ball heavier which probably screws up the aerodynamics.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah, I understand some of the rationale about getting reverse swing and being able to keep the seam dry enough to be able to release the ball the way you intend to but to basically write on a site like crapinfo that the bowlers were unable to get wickets because one of the ball-shiners/lickers was off the field just seems to be amazingly naive and almost insulting to the English bowlers' abilities.

Reverse swing is dependent on maintaining the condition of the ball though. You are probably right that saying that the bowling is useless without reverse is harsh.

I mean, Hom's a handsome guy and a good close fielder and I bet he's real funny and charming with the ladies, but picking him is the kinda thing you see Kohli do.
That sort of thing is vital on the end of season trip. I'd keep him in the side too.

Sometimes I feel root tries too hard with the polishing thing. Doing it for the team no doubt but got to be careful if he picks up illness doing this
Is Bangladesh so bad that even polishing a cricket ball there can give you an illness? Jesus Christ, what sort of place is this joint.

Don't think there's any question Jason Gillespie was a better cricketer than any player on either side in this test match tbh.

We have never had to consider this before, but what happens if Bangladesh draws/wins a test series against a top side? How does it affect the ranking points system?

I think it affected India and SA quite a bit last season which I thought was pretty unfair as both matches were heavily rain-affected.
