Everyone will look back in two years time and see 6-1 as the result and think of it as an easy result for Australia. Disregarding the final two games it was a tight contest and Australia needed some bloody good knocks to get through the early games.

For Australia it has highlighted some glaring issues like the form of Bollinger, White and Haddin. But some unexpected names have had good showings and appear firm members of our side or at least in our best 13 players when Mike Hussey and Ricky Ponting return. It is a great result the form of Lee and David Hussey, and Hastings played his role well and may be crucial in the SC.

so we go through all that, and we don't even see a presentation ceremony?

what a waste of time....
Channel 9 are always falling over themselves to get stuck into the late night movie or whatever inconsequential crap they have billed for after the cricket.

At least they're not like ONE and cut from the final over of the game to show a repeat of some indoor athletics tournament

Taity is vital to our worldcup hopes becuase it seems he is the only bowler in our ranks capable of bowling full and straight.
and Lee, both will be important as you say,

But I guess when you are winning easily like we are, you have more chance of getting a wicket by banging it half way down against lower order batsman. But if England did put up a fight and came close with wickets in hand, you would have probably seen our bowlers trying the yorker more often. Watson is also capable of doing death over duties.

For those of you interested, this is how Cricket Web Fantasy Cricket saw the value of each player throughout the series:

Very interesting to see Clarke in front of Strauss. Who was in form for most of the series again?

As well as White only just ahead of Collingwood.

Top of the list dominated by bowlers, too. OK, Watson and Trott mostly get in on weight of runs but the wickets they took sure gave them a boost.

Love stuff like this. You going to post these lists after each series regularly now? :)
Thought I may as well :)

I found it amusing that Channel 9 did the same thing towards the end of the coverage tonight and had the same points system used in CW Fantasy Cricket

I find it incredible that 38 players had an involvement this series. That must be close to a record for any two team ODI series?

Strauss pisses away good form better than most batsmen in world cricket though, in short and long formats. He's a lot better now than he used to be though.

I say that as someone who doesn't see him as much as others though. :)

You could probably develop that into official Cricket Web ODI batting, bowling and overall rankings pretty easily you know - factor in the strength of the opposition and the recency of each game, average the points per match for each player and vuala, you've got something you could put on StatsSpider like the ICC Reliance ones. Could be worth thinking about.

The guy went through a phase of tonning up left, right and centre back in 08/09 right? I remember him doing well in India, correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank god thats over.

Looking forward to the World Cup and this series means nothing as we can win the opening few group matches and start to get on a roll there.

Not sure this series has helped too much regarding the Aussie selection, Ponting to come back and Clarke still scores too slowly most of the time yet they are both certainties to play. Will making changes disrupt the team?
