We drew 1-1 last time we were there.
Didn't that involve a Cloete 270?

Oh well. Looking forward to a close and competitive series, hopefully we can upset those ****y Sri Lankans :)

Isn't the highest FC score by a CWer 243* by Bugsy?

Yeah it is.

I hold a higher score in TESTS though. I don't remember hitting 270 midn you

It was 250 odd against SA in the first ever CW series (there was no Dev League back then)!

Realistically, do we think we can get a win? Last year Simon dominated in the Dev League but didn't carry it over to the tests... hm.

GO CW!
I realistically think we can win this series 2-0. We've beaten them in tests before, we'll do it again, we've got the squad to do it twice in the one series, and three times in a row, having won our last test against the Sri Lankans, if I recall correctly.

CW XI Squad for Warmup

PE Young
H Moerk (wk)
BJ Goff (C)
AP Cloete
CR Butler
MJ Robbins
TC Halsey
DP Richards
XPA Rose
DM Kennett
KS Wright

12th Man: SG Fitzsimmons

We're going with the top 6 who will almost certainly start in the first Test match, whilst playing 5 bowlers to assess what our attack will look like. Essentially Kennett vs Rose for the second seamer spot and Halsey vs Richards for the second spinner spot. Wright gets the chance to acclimatize himself.

Pending the performance of the bowling attack in this match, the team with will likely be strengthened with the inclusion of either allrounder Camps or batsman Fitzsimmons.

Webheads Impress At Colombo

A strong showing by the Cricket Web XI was not enough to force victory in the 3-day match against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI. However, the XI was dominant throughout most of the match and had the hosts struggling at 130/6 chasing 282 for victory when the match came to a close.

Batting first after winning the toss, both Webhead openers were out cheaply, in a match where opening batsmen struggled for the most part. Skipper Brendon Goff and Andrew Cloete were positive in their response to the crisis, hitting brisk fifties. Following suit, Chris Butler hit his first of two half-centuries in the match, and Robbins was carefree for a breezy 82. Dave Richards (48) contributed nicely, and the CW XI ended on 352 all out.

The session in the field got off to an unbelievable start, as Wright trapped Atapattu LBW for a duck with his 3rd delivery. Kennett followed up with 3 quick wickets and the score was soon 7/4. A classy hundred from Kumar Sangakkara saved the day, however, as the Sri Lanka Cricket XI reached 207 all out.

Facing just a few overs before stumps on the second day, CW posed some very indecisive cricket with the bat, losing 4 wickets and seeing Goff and Butler dropped to end at 35/4. Butler soldiered on through the morning session of the final day, fighting his way back into form. A declaration came at 136/7, and 57 overs remained for the home team to chase 282.

A steady opening stand of 57 set back the Webheads initially, but the breakthrough of Halsey (the first of 3 wickets) fairly opened the floodgates until the close.
