Will that 16 man squad be the touring test squad and the ODI squad named at a later date again?

TBF Xavier, you only made it because CW needed a poster boy in order to attract more female spectators to their international fixtures.
That's one of the reasons.

Given the gruelling prospect of 5 Tests away from home, the CW XI will travel with a 16-man squad. The squad will be named over the course of the next week.

The suspense is killing innocent kittens everywhere, Liam. Why do you hate the kittens? :(

New faces join the familiar in CW XI squad

Fitzsimmons recalled to the Cricket Web XI

Two uncapped players have been included in the touring party for the Cricket Web XI in South Africa. With 139 first-class matches and a total of 658 wickets to his name, Dave Watt has been called up to the Test team for the first time. Watt has been a regular for the CW XI in one-day international cricket lately, and now receives the distinction of a shot at a Test cap.

Joining Watt is Mike Wilson. The Cricket Web Black allrounder has long been marked as a big talent, but struggled to maintain his form. Wilson emerged from Season XI as the premiere allrounder in CWLand, and now gets the chance to impress at the highest level.

Making an emotional return to the squad is Simon Fitzsimmons. He returns to the country where he was part of the original CW XI lineup and returns to international cricket after struggles in his previous stint saw him axed with a hint of permanence. Years of dominance at Dev League level has earned him a deserved recall.

Brendon Goff will lead the 16-man party, as expected. Neil Pickup will once again serve as the deputy, whilst young batsmen Rob Dauth and David Kearsley have been retained.

The backup pool to the squad consists of Kyle Wright (Colts), Bryce Cunningham (Green) and Pete Young (Blue).

Cricket Web XI Test squad:
BJ Goff (c), NS Pickup (vc), H Moerk (wk), T Mamesh, DA Kearsley, RJ Dauth, SG Fitzsimmons, CR Butler, AP Cloete, GM Thomas, NS Hoy, TC Halsey, DM Kennett, LA Camps, DJ Watt, MW Wilson.

Haha. My stock has fallen a fair way from being 12th man several times mid-season to being the third all-rounder in line, but I can't complain really, given that I had a pretty poor season. Presumably there will be ODI specialists called up when the test series is completed?

Good luck to the squad selected, should be a challenging tour.

That's of course assuming you're 3rd in line...

Graeme Smith (commenting, for some reason, on the little-known Sean Fuller):

"Can't bat, can't bowl, but has a mean throwing arm."

Thoughts?

Very happy with the squad... Looks a solid team with a great mix of youth and experience.. A few guys will be out to show what they can do, The likes of Watt who after all this time finally gets the call up to the test side, Simon who after mountains of runs finally gets a deserved recall. Mike Wilson also gets a chance to show what he can do. Then theres the likes of Kears and Mamesh who will be looking to cement their spots in the side...

I think we can really rattle the south africans in this series... Lets go boys!!

To be honest, I can't really throw.

Sean can't throw and shocked to see Fitzsimmons back in the team.

Kids all over CW now will begin to eat pies at an extreme rate, trying to mimick their hero Fitzsimmons.

On a less of a sledge, well done Simon on the recall. Hard luck on Pete, but Simon has had many seasons of runs now :) Well done Dave and Mike on the call ups, and har har @ Sean.

Kearsley under the pump here, surely his last test matches if he fails again.

Strong squad, should give the South African's a run for their money (which was probably won at an Indian bookies').

Looks like a strong squad, it's great to be retained and to see young Kears retained as well, as well as seeing Willo, Watta and Fitzsimmons called up. Good luck guys.
