Second One-Day International: South Africa v Cricket Web XI

CW XI recorded their twelfth successive victory in One-day Internationals, and once again Liam Camps jnr. stood up with his bowling to take his fourth career five-wicket-haul and take his ODI career haul past 140. It saved the Webheads after some lacklustre bowling had threatened to hand Pollock, Ntini and Boucher their win on a silver platter, after the Webheads had dominated for most of the game.
Cricket Web started slowly. Camps and Markus paired up for 85 for the first wicket, but Charl Langeveldt found plenty of swing, worrying both Markus and Goff at times. With Camps run out for 39, things looked slightly troublesome at 86 for two, but Pollock had an off day while Goff, Cloete and Dauth all hit out well. The total of 258 for five looked solid, and most of the batsmen had exploited good starts.
In reply, South Africa made it 103 for two, with both Kallis and Prince looking settled. Then both took off within the space of two balls and were run out, and more wickets followed to spinners Pickup and Halsey. Boucher and Pollock staged a recovery, grinding out 57 runs for the seventh wicket, but Liam Camps returned to take four wickets to compliment that of opener Gibbs. Overall, the result was somewhat close, but never really in doubt.

Go Camps, what a gun, 39 and 5/51. Good to see "BJ" hit a half-century, and Ian to get amongst the runs. All the bowlers bowled pretty well except Wright I guess - Halsey bowled pretty tidily, Watt took the vital early wicket of Smith, Pickup got de Villiers. Good stuff guys. 2-0

Despite Jacques Kallis taking on the Webhead seamers, the third One-day International ended in a familiar result, as Cricket Web marched onwards in their quest to take the world record of most successive ODI victories. Their thirteenth was achieved despite 33 from Graeme Smith and 63 from Jacques Kallis, both at breakneck pace; the middle order once more wilted against Halsey and Liam Camps took his second five-wicket-haul in as many days, and handy medium pace from Chris Butler was also crucial. Andrew Cloete stood up with the bat, too, making a well timed 68 after coming to the crease at 37 for three.
South Africa won the toss, batted first, and eased to 128 for two as the new-ball bowlers, once again, were not up to the task. Watt was the pick, having Gibbs in some trouble and bowling two maidens, as well as worrying Smith on occasion, but Liam Camps had to be brought in to get wickets, bowling Graeme Smith off an inside edge in the 14th over.
Gibbs followed shortly afterwards, another inside edge finding its way to the keeper, but the next ball was driven straight by Ashwell Prince for six. Camps was replaced by Halsey, and more wickets followed, with Prince and de Villiers both bowled by the big turner.
Butler started with two wides, but was still given confidence, and in his fourth over he struck to remove Kallis and Kemp. With South Africa at 174 for eight after four wickets had fallen in five balls (Camps removed Boucher and Langeveldt), rebuilding was needed, but they only got as far as 203: Ntini made 20 before he, too, was bowled by Halsey.
In reply, CW started well, making 25 from the first six overs. However, Pollock's probing length and line found the edge of Markus' bat, Goff and Camps followed in the next over, and it was all up to Cloete and Butler. Though the run rate slowed dramatically, they batted through more than ten overs before Butler set off for a single to be easily run out, and Dauth was bowled shortly afterwards - off a no-ball.
Dauth survived and CW eked past 100 - and from then on it was simple. Cloete was cleaned up by Nel for 68 with nine overs remaining, but with just 30 runs required it didn't matter that Dauth went as well; Crampton and Halsey eased to victory with 14 balls to spare.
